Hollow Bar in PTFE GF15 MoS² 1000 mm natural

Tubes in PTFE GF15 MoS² are a hybrid where pure PTFE is reinforced with 15 percent glass fiber and a smaller dose of molybdenum disulfide. The result is a tube material that keeps the chemical resistance of the fluoropolymer, but that takes mechanical load considerably better than unmodified PTFE.

PTFE as a base material is close to inert. It stands up to acids, bases, solvents and most industrial liquids. The flammability rating is V0, the continuous service temperature sits at 260 degrees and the material handles down to minus 200 degrees without turning brittle. The density lands around 2.17 g/cm³.

The glass fiber addition removes the biggest weakness of PTFE, creep under load. The glass fiber stabilizes the dimensions when the tube is loaded by pressure or heat, and the wear resistance rises against metal mating surfaces. The MoS² addition lowers the friction further and improves the dry running properties, which is useful when the tube works as a plain bearing sleeve or a guide.

Typical applications for the tubular format:

Slide bushings and bearing sleeves in pumps, compressors and valve guides.

Short runs in chemical transport where pure PTFE shrinks too much under pressure.

Insulating sleeves in heat processing and high temperature applications.

Protective tubes around moving shafts in aggressive environments.

The color is grayish white to light gray depending on the amount of MoS². The material is machined in conventional metalworking machines, but the edges wear faster from the glass fiber, so carbide or diamond tipped tools are recommended. Sharp inserts and low feeds give the best surface finish. PTFE cannot be bonded or welded conventionally. Mechanical fastening, a clamped joint or etched surfaces are the way forward when joining.

When choosing a dimension, remember that the tube wall governs the pressure resistance more than the outer diameter does. Thin walls combined with thermal expansion can make tubes go oval if the fit is too tight. Allow a little clearance in sleeve applications.

The 1000 mm hollow bar in natural has glass fiber and dry lubricant blended in and is pre-bored for dimensionally stable rings that run easily without oil.
