Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with ElastoGum tread and PA6 hub
Here is an industrial caster with a fixed bracket, a tread in ElastoGum and a hub in PA6, built for heavier transport where the floor and the goods are to be spared. ElastoGum is a soft, elastic rubber with a hardness of 65 degrees Shore A, that is softer than many other rubber treads. The lower hardness gives a compliant tread that lays itself well against the surface, takes up shocks and keeps both noise and vibration down.
The softness shows most clearly in operation. A softer tread gets a larger contact area against the floor, which spreads the pressure and spares painted or ground concrete and tiles. It does not bite into seams and joints but rolls softly over them. The price for this is a somewhat higher rolling resistance than on a hard wheel, but since the caster is meant for straight, guided running in a fixed bracket that is rarely a problem. The grip is good at the same time, which keeps the goods steady on starting and braking.
A comparison makes the difference clear. A hard nylon wheel rolls most easily and carries the most, but it rattles and can scratch sensitive floors. A hard polyurethane tread sits between these and carries heavy loads with low rolling resistance. You choose the soft ElastoGum tread when quiet running, shock absorption and kindness to the floor weigh more than the lowest possible rolling resistance.
The hub in PA6 is light and corrosion free and takes moisture and most workshop chemicals. It holds its shape and carries the load without the extra weight a metal hub brings. The series comes with a plain bearing or a ball bearing. The plain bearing is simple and maintenance free and takes dirt and wet well, but gives a higher rolling resistance. The ball bearing gives lower rolling resistance and a smoother run, a good choice when the caster is moved often or over longer distances.
This is a broad series. The diameters run from 60 to 250 mm and the load capacity reaches up to 600 kg per wheel. The wide diameter range lets you choose a small wheel where the overall height is tight or a large wheel that rolls easily over thresholds and lowers the rolling resistance on longer transport. The bracket is mounted with a top plate, a plate with four screw holes that fastens firmly against a frame or underframe and takes heavy loads without play.
Where is it used? Industrial casters in ElastoGum with a PA6 hub suit heavy transport carts, material handling carts, machine underframes and stable work tables indoors. The fixed bracket makes the caster suitable at the guiding end of a cart, preferably together with swiveling wheels that give maneuvering at the other end. It works in workshops, warehouses, production and in settings where a low noise level is appreciated.
Think about the conditions. The rubber is happiest at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. Standing still for a long time under full load can give the tread a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that belongs to elastic materials and disappears in motion. Black rubber can leave light marks on pale floors, which is worth weighing in.
