Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with PUR tread, aluminum hub and double ball bearings
Here is an industrial caster in a fixed bracket with a running surface in polyurethane, a hub in aluminum and double ball bearings. The combination is made for transport that has to run evenly and steadily even when the load varies. The tread is a molded PUR at 93 degrees Shore A, a hard and wear-resistant polyurethane that holds its shape under pressure and at the same time spares the floor more than a wheel in plain hard plastic.
The fixed bracket version makes the caster roll straight and not swivel. That gives tracking safety on straight stretches and makes the cart steady when it is pulled or pushed long distances. On a typical cart the fixed casters are combined with swivel casters that do the steering.
The tread in operation deserves a paragraph of its own. Molded PUR has low rolling resistance in relation to its stiffness, so the wheel starts easily and rolls without demanding unnecessary pulling force. Double ball bearings set this series apart from an ordinary single ball bearing: two rows of balls spread the load and keep an even run even when the wheel is loaded off-center or when the cart is used often. Against a softer rubber wheel, PUR gives higher wear resistance and lower rolling resistance, but damps less on uneven floors; against a hard nylon wheel, PUR is quieter and gentler on the ground. The polyurethane also takes oil, grease and mild chemicals.
The aluminum hub is stiff and light at the same time. It carries the load, resists corrosion and brings down the weight of the wheel itself, which is an advantage where the total cart weight has to be kept low. Together with the double ball bearings it gives a stable and quiet run over time.
The wheels come in diameters from 80 to 250 mm and the series handles load capacities up to 600 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints, thresholds and edges and lowers the rolling resistance, while a smaller diameter keeps the overall height down where space is tight. The bracket has a top plate with four screw holes and is fastened directly to the underframe of a cart or machine.
Where does it fit? PUR with an aluminum hub and double ball bearings in a fixed bracket is a work caster for indoor use in industry, assembly and warehousing. It often sits under assembly carts, material carts, adjustable work tables and lighter machine underframes where you want a calm, stable run rather than extreme maximum load. The durable tread suits concrete, tile and painted floors.
Think about the operating environment. Polyurethane is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic and semi-hard polyurethanes. The double ball bearings are maintenance-free in normal operation, but they last best in clean environments without coarse dust and chips.
