Think about the operating environment. ElastoGum belongs indoors at normal temperature and in dry to slightly damp premises. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic materials. The tread takes impacts well but is not made for rough outdoor ground.
Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with 75 Shore A ElastoGum tread and cast iron hub
This is an industrial caster in a fixed bracket with an ElastoGum tread and a cast iron hub. The tread holds 75 degrees Shore A and is combined here with a heavy, stiff cast iron hub, which gives a caster built to carry a real load and at the same time run quietly and spare the floor. ElastoGum settles softly against the ground and takes up impacts and vibration, so the cart and the goods are spared the shaking a hard wheel would have passed on.
The fixed bracket locks the direction of travel straight ahead. That makes the series suitable as the load-carrying, direction-holding casters under heavy carts and fixed conveyors, where swivel casters handle the turns at the other end. When a large part of the load has to rest steadily on a pair of casters, the combination of a stiff hub and a gripping, damping tread is a safe choice.
How does the tread behave in operation? A soft rubber tread at 75 Shore A takes a little more force to get rolling than a hard wheel, but it gives quiet running, good grip and a surface contact that leaves no marks on most hard floors. Compare it with a hard plastic wheel in nylon: that one rolls the easiest and carries the most, but it makes more noise and can scratch sensitive floors. An even softer rubber damps more but loses load capacity. At 75 Shore A with a cast iron hub you get a tread soft enough for quiet, floor-friendly running, and a hub that lets you move heavy loads.
The cast iron hub is the backbone of the wheel. It is stiff, carries the load and holds its shape even at high weight, and it weighs a fair amount, which shows as steady, plowing behavior in the cart. Inside the hub sit double ball bearings that spread the load over two rows of balls and give an even, stable run even when the cart is fully loaded and rolling at speed. The series carries up to 850 kg per wheel.
The wheels come in diameters from 100 to 300 mm. A larger diameter lowers the rolling resistance, rolls more easily over joints and thresholds and is preferable at high load, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where space is tight. The bracket is mounted with a top plate, a plate with four screw holes that gives a durable seat against the heavy frame or cart the caster is to carry.
Where does it fit? This series sits well under heavy transport carts, machine underframes, tool carts and fixed roller conveyors in workshops and warehouses where the load is large but the floor still has to be spared and the noise level kept down. The soft tread is happy on painted or ground concrete and on tile, and the straight run makes the caster a stable load-carrying wheel in a setup with steering at the other end. The wider diameter range, all the way up to 300 mm, makes it a good choice where the ground has joints or thresholds to get over.
