Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with ElastoPUR and cast iron hub

This is an industrial caster in a fixed bracket with an ElastoPUR tread and a cast iron hub, built for heavy transport where the floor has to be spared and the caster still has to carry a real load. The tread is a super-elastic polyurethane with a hardness of 93 degrees Shore A, which is a firmer casting than the very softest versions. You get a tread that settles against the ground without feeling spongy, and that holds its shape even when the load is high.

The fixed bracket means the caster rolls straight ahead and does not twist sideways. That makes the series suitable as a guiding caster at the front or the rear of a longer cart, where a pair of fixed casters give direction and a pair of swiveling casters handle the maneuvering. The top plate with four screw holes gives a stable seat and spreads the load over the whole fastener.

A word on starting resistance and rolling resistance. ElastoPUR has a low rolling resistance in relation to its elasticity, so the caster gets going without demanding unnecessary pulling force. At 93 Shore A the tread is stiffer than a soft rubber tread, which lowers the rolling resistance further and lets the caster roll easily under load. Compare it with a softer wheel around 80 Shore A: the softer option damps more and is quieter on uneven floors, but it compresses more and therefore rolls a little more sluggishly under heavy weight. Compare it instead with a hard plastic wheel in nylon: the plastic wheel rolls even more easily but makes noise and can scratch sensitive floors. This ElastoPUR tread lands in the middle and spares the floor without losing rollability.

The cast iron hub gives the wheel stiffness and is the backbone that carries the load without giving way. That is why the series handles load capacities up to 1000 kg per wheel. Inside the hub sit double ball bearings that spread the load over two rows of balls; that gives an even run and takes the side weight that arises when a heavy cart turns or brakes.

The wheels come in diameters from 200 to 250 mm. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints, cable ducts and thresholds and lowers the rolling resistance, while the smaller one keeps the overall height down where the clearance under a cart is limited. The polyurethane takes wear well and resists most oils, greases and mild chemicals found in a workshop.

Where does it fit? This is a work caster for heavy internal transport indoors, for example under material carts, assembly underframes, heavy roller tables and manual pallet trucks in industry and warehousing. The fixed bracket makes it work well in pairs together with swivel casters on the same cart, where straight running and tracking matter over longer distances. The polyurethane-coated tread is happy on painted or ground concrete and on tile.

Think about the operating environment. Polyurethane works best at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic materials and it disappears once the caster is moving again.
