Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with PUR tread and PA6 hub, stiff polyurethane
This is an industrial caster in a fixed bracket with a tread in cast polyurethane and a hub in PA6. The tread sits at 98 Shore A, that is a stiff polyurethane near the hard end of the scale. The caster is built for heavy transport on hard floors where you want the wear strength and floor protection of polyurethane but still need to carry a proper load. The fixed bracket locks the direction of travel and holds the wheel straight during transport.
At 98 Shore A the tread is hard enough to deform only a little against the floor, which keeps the contact area small and the rolling resistance low, while the polyurethane keeps its wear strength and its ability to spare the surface better than a hard plastic or steel wheel. You get more load capacity and lower rolling force than a soft PUR tread gives, but you keep part of the polyurethane advantages: good grip, resistance to abrasion and resistance to oils, greases and mild chemicals.
The balance is central to this caster. A soft PUR tread lays itself against the floor, runs more quietly and damps more, but rolls more sluggishly and carries less. A hard PA6 tread rolls most easily and carries the most but passes noise across and can mark the floor. 98 Shore A sits near the hard end; the caster rolls easily and carries heavy loads, while the tread is still polyurethane and therefore kinder to the floor than pure plastic. This is the caster you choose when the load is high, the floor hard, and you want to combine low rolling force with reasonable kindness to the floor.
The hub in PA6 is light and corrosion free and carries the tread steadily without rusting. This family comes with three bearing options. A plain bearing is simple and maintenance free and takes dirt and splash, but gives a somewhat higher rolling resistance. A ball bearing gives lower rolling resistance and an even run. Double ball bearings spread the load over two rows of balls and give a stable run under heavy load, which suits the heaviest versions in the series. You choose the bearing by how heavy the load is and how often the wheel is to roll.
The wheels come in diameters from 80 to 250 mm and carry up to 750 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints and thresholds and lowers the rolling resistance, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where space is limited. The bracket is mounted with a top plate, a four hole plate that is screwed onto the underframe and gives a steady mounting that takes both pulling and side forces.
Where does it fit? The caster often sits under heavy transport carts, machine underframes, assembly lines and roller conveyors in workshops, warehouses and manufacturing. The stiff but floor sparing tread makes it a good choice where you run heavy loads but still want to protect painted or ground concrete. The fixed bracket is gladly combined with swivel casters; the fixed wheels hold the course and the swivel casters handle the turning.
Think about the operating environment. Polyurethane is happiest at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic materials.
