Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with an 80 Shore A rubber tread and PP hub

This is an industrial caster in a fixed bracket with a rubber tread at 80 Shore A and a hub in PP. It is a quiet work caster for indoor transport where the floor is to be spared and the load can be fairly heavy. The slightly softer rubber compound makes the wheel lay itself neatly against the surface and take up shocks before they reach the goods.

At 80 Shore A the tread is a shade softer than a rubber at 85, and that shows in the feel. The wheel damps more and runs more quietly, but at the same time it is compressed a little more against the floor. That means the rolling resistance is somewhat higher and that the caster needs a little more force to get going. In return the run is even and the grip secure, which is valuable on a cart that often starts and stops in a picking zone or along an assembly line.

Set against a hard wheel in plastic or steel, the rubber wheel is the quieter and kinder choice for the floor, while the hard wheel rolls more easily and takes even more load. The strength here lies in the combination of quiet running and a carrying capacity that still goes a long way: the series handles load capacities up to 295 kg per wheel, which makes it useful even for heavier carts.

The hub in PP is light, corrosion free and takes the cleaning agents and liquids found in most workshops. In the hub sits a plain bearing, a simple and maintenance free solution without balls that need greasing. The plain bearing takes dust and wet well and suits an environment where the wheels are rinsed off or exposed to dirt, at the price of a somewhat higher rolling resistance than a ball bearing.

The wheels come in diameters from 100 to 250 mm. The wide span makes the series suit both low carts short of overall height and higher carts where a large diameter rolls more easily over thresholds, door sills and joints and keeps the rolling resistance down. The caster is mounted with a top plate, a four hole plate that gives a steady and stable mounting in the underframe.

The bracket is fixed, so the wheel rolls straight ahead without swiveling. That makes it a good directional caster under a longer cart, preferably paired with swivel casters at the other end so the whole rig both runs straight and can be steered around corners.

Where does it fit? Under transport carts, material carts and heavy roller tables in warehouses, workshops and production, especially where you want to combine a high load with a low noise level. The soft tread makes the caster suitable on painted and ground concrete as well as on tiles where marks are to be avoided.

Think about the operating environment. The rubber is happiest at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. Under a long standing load the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while, which is normal for soft materials. On very light floors dark rubber should be tested first, since in some cases it can leave marks.
