Twin wheel in a swivel bracket with PUR tread and PP hub
This is a swivel twin wheel with two wheels side by side, a tread in polyurethane and hubs in polypropylene. Sharing the load across two running surfaces instead of one gives stable running and a lower overall height than a single wheel with the same load capacity. The tread is a harder cast polyurethane with a hardness around 98 degrees Shore A, a material that takes wear well and rolls easily.
The hard polyurethane tread gives low rolling resistance. The wheel starts without your having to put in extra force, and that shows over many starts and stops, for example on a picking cart moved between stations. At the same time the polyurethane is gentler on the floor than a tread in plain plastic or steel; it settles slightly against the surface instead of loading it at a point. The material also takes oil, grease and the mild chemicals found in a workshop.
How does this differ from a softer wheel? A soft rubber tread damps more and runs more quietly on an uneven floor, but it takes more force to roll and carries less. The hard PUR tread instead picks low rolling resistance and load capacity over maximum damping. If you want quiet and cushioned on an uneven surface a softer option suits better; if you want to move a load easily on an even floor this is the right one.
The hub in polypropylene keeps the weight down and does not rust, which is practical in damp environments and when washing. The bearing is a plain bearing, a simple and maintenance free solution that takes dust and wet well. A plain bearing gives somewhat higher rolling resistance than a ball bearing, but lasts a long time without supervision and suits the moderate load the series is built for.
The wheels come in diameters from 50 to 75 mm and carry up to 90 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints and thresholds, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where it is tight under the cart. Since it is a twin wheel the load is spread over two treads, which gives good stability even at the upper part of the range.
The bracket is a swivel bracket and turns through 360 degrees, so the wheel follows through turns and makes the cart easy to maneuver in a small space. Mounting is with a bolt hole, that is, a through hole, which makes it easy to swap for an existing swivel caster position with the same hole type. The wheel comes both with a wheel brake, which locks the wheel itself, and with a total lock brake, which locks both wheel and swivel so that the cart stands still where it is put.
Where does it fit? The swivel twin wheel in PUR is a practical choice under serving trolleys, instrument carts, picking carts and lighter equipment bases indoors. The even running and the low overall height make it suitable where you want good rolling properties without the cart getting tall, and the bolt hole mounting fits standardized cart frames.
Think about the operating environment. Polyurethane is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp spaces. If the wheel stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can get a temporary impression that rolls out after a while; that is normal for polyurethane and does not affect the wheel in the long run.
