Industrial caster in a swivel bracket with ElastoGum tread and PA6 hub, brake options and several bearings

This is a swiveling industrial caster with a tread in ElastoGum and a hub in PA6, a series where you can choose both bearing type and brake by how the cart is to be used. The swivel bracket turns the wheel through 360 degrees, so the cart follows smoothly through turns and when maneuvering in a small space. The tread is an elastic rubber with a hardness of 75 degrees Shore A, a firmer rubber grade that gives lower rolling resistance than the softest treads but still runs quietly and spares the floor.

At 75 Shore A the tread lands in the firmer part of the rubber scale. It rolls more easily and needs less force at the start than a really soft wheel, while it keeps much of the quiet and the grip of rubber. The tread still takes up small unevenness and damps noise, but it does not press as deep against the floor as a softer grade. That makes the grade a good middle setting for carts that roll a lot and often, where you do not want to pay the full rolling resistance for maximum softness.

Compared with a hard plastic wheel in nylon this caster rolls somewhat heavier but makes considerably less noise and is gentler on painted floors. Compared with a soft 55 degree tread it rolls more easily but damps a little less. So you land right in between, which suits most general transport tasks indoors.

The bearing can be chosen between double ball bearings, a ball bearing and a roller bearing. Double ball bearings give a very stable run under heavy and long lasting load, a single ball bearing rolls easily and is a good all round choice, and a roller bearing takes high radial load where the cart is loaded hard. The brake comes as a wheel brake, a directional lock and a total lock brake: the wheel brake locks the wheel, the directional lock holds the wheel in the direction of travel so the cart runs straight, and the total lock brake locks both wheel and swivel at parking. The hub in PA6 is light and corrosion free and carries the load without the weight of a metal hub.

The wheels come in diameters from 100 to 200 mm and handle load capacities up to 350 kg per wheel. A smaller diameter keeps the overall height down, a larger one rolls more easily over thresholds and seams. Mounting is done with a top plate with four screw holes, a stable fastening that takes the side forces a swivel bracket produces.

Where does it fit? This swivel caster sits under transport carts, assembly carts, material carts and roller tables in industry and warehouses. The option to mix bearings and brakes makes the series flexible: a directional lock on the front wheels and a total lock brake on the rear ones gives a cart that both runs straight over long distances and stands steady when parked. The firmer tread suits well where the cart rolls long stretches and you want to keep the required force down.

Think about the operating environment. The rubber tread is happiest at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that is normal for elastic materials and less pronounced on this firmer grade.
