Industrial caster in a swivel bracket with ElastoGum and aluminum hub, 75 Shore A
This swiveling industrial caster has a tread in ElastoGum and a hub in aluminum. The tread is an elastic rubber with a hardness of 75 degrees Shore A, so a touch firmer than the softest rubber grades. That gives a tread which is still quiet and gentle, but which takes a notch heavier load and deforms a little less under the wheel as it rolls.
The hardness governs how the wheel behaves in service. A rubber at 75 Shore A does not compress as much as a softer one in the 60s, and the starting friction and rolling resistance therefore come out somewhat lower; the cart gets going with less force. At the same time the tread keeps the good properties of rubber: it absorbs shocks over joints, holds the noise down and is gentle on coated and polished floors. For comparison: a really soft wheel gives maximum quiet and shock absorption but is heavier to roll, while a hard plastic wheel rolls the easiest of all but makes more noise and can scratch the floor. This tread at 75 Shore A lands in the middle and suits anyone who wants the comfort of rubber without paying too much in rolling resistance.
The aluminum hub is light and stiff at the same time. It forms the core that carries the load and holds the shape of the wheel, and it weighs less than a hub in cast iron, which you notice on a cart that is lifted or moved by hand. Aluminum also resists corrosion well. Inside the hub sit double ball bearings that spread the load over two rows of balls and give even running under heavy loads.
The series comes in diameters from 100 to 250 mm and handles load capacities up to 400 kg per wheel. A smaller diameter keeps the overall height down where space is tight, while a larger one rolls more easily over thresholds and floor joints. The swivel bracket makes the caster swiveling through 360 degrees for smooth maneuvering, and it is mounted with a top plate that is bolted to the underframe. The caster is available with a total lock brake that locks both the roll and the swivel, and in a version with a front lever brake where the brake pedal sits at the front and is easy to reach with your foot.
Where does it fit? ElastoGum at 75 Shore A with an aluminum hub is often used under transport carts, roll tables, machine underframes and picking carts in industry and warehousing. The slightly firmer tread makes it a good choice where the carts roll longer distances and you want to save effort, but still need quiet and care for the floor. The front lever brake is practical in places where staff want to brake quickly with a foot without bending down.
Think about the operating environment. The tread is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp premises. If the caster stands still for a long time under high load, the rubber can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that comes with elastic materials. If the load lands near the upper end of the range, it is wise to choose a larger diameter, because it spreads the pressure better and makes rolling easier.
