This is a swiveling industrial caster with a tread in ElastoGum and a hub in cast iron, built for heavier transport indoors where the goods and the floor still have to be treated gently. The tread is an elastic rubber with a hardness of 75 degrees Shore A, firm enough to carry properly but soft enough to absorb shocks and keep the noise down as the wheel rolls.

The hardness of the tread decides how the wheel behaves in service. A rubber at 75 Shore A does not compress as much as a softer one, which lowers the starting friction and the rolling resistance a little; the cart gets going with less force than with a really soft tread. At the same time the rubber keeps its ability to take up unevenness, absorb shocks over joints and spare coated or polished floors. Compared with a hard plastic wheel, the plastic rolls more easily and carries more per millimeter of diameter, but it makes a racket and can scratch the surface. With this tread you get the quiet and the floor care of rubber while the firmer rubber holds the rolling resistance at a reasonable level, a good middle ground for carts that are used a lot.

The hub in cast iron is the heaviest and stiffest type of hub. It forms the core that carries the load and holds the shape of the wheel even under high loads, which is the reason you choose cast iron over aluminum when the load calls for maximum stiffness. The price is a higher weight of its own. Inside the hub sit double ball bearings that spread the load over two rows of balls and give even, steady running under heavy loads.

The series comes in diameters from 100 to 300 mm and handles load capacities up to 850 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over thresholds and floor joints and spreads the pressure at high loads, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where space is limited. The swivel bracket makes the caster swiveling through 360 degrees for smooth maneuvering, and it is mounted with a top plate that is bolted to the underframe. The caster is fitted with a total lock brake that locks both the roll and the swivel when the cart has to stand still.

Where does it fit? ElastoGum with a cast iron hub sits under heavy transport carts, machine underframes, tool carts and movable units in industry and workshops. The stiff type of hub and the damping tread make the caster a good choice where heavy loads have to be moved quietly and without damage to the floor, for example in assembly halls and warehouses. The total lock brake is practical at work stations where the cart has to stand completely still during the work.

Think about the operating environment. The tread is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp premises. The cast iron hub stands up to moisture, but in distinctly corrosive surroundings a corrosion-resistant hub is preferable. If the caster stands still for a long time under full load, the rubber tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that comes with elastic materials. If the load is close to 850 kg, it pays to choose a larger diameter.
