Pneumatic caster in a fixed bracket with pneumatic rubber tread and PP hub
This is a light pneumatic caster in a fixed bracket with an air-filled tire and a hub in polypropylene (PP). It is made for easy transport over uneven ground where low weight and soft running are the point. The fixed bracket holds the wheel in the direction of travel and gives straight, stable rolling, while the air-filled tire springs and absorbs the shocks that would otherwise shake both cart and load. The rubber is soft, around 65 degrees Shore A, which gives good damping and quiet rolling.
The air is the wheel's advantage on rough ground. The tire swallows gravel, potholes and edges and keeps the load calm where a hard wheel would have dug in and bounced. On a firm floor an air-filled tire rolls with some resistance because the contact patch gives way, but on loose or rough ground you win it back because the cart runs evenly without digging itself down. The wide contact patch spreads the weight, so the wheel does not sink as easily into soft ground.
A comparison explains the choice. A solid rubber wheel is free of air pressure and rolls more easily on asphalt, but gives poorer springing and harder running outdoors. A hard polyurethane wheel rolls most easily on a level floor but does not suit rough ground. This series is a light pneumatic wheel for moderate loads; choose it and you get comfort and low weight, but not the load capacity a steel hub would have given. If you need to move really heavy things, a stronger hub suits better.
The PP hub is light and cheap and keeps the weight of the wheel down, which you notice when the cart has to be lifted or carried. Inside sits a roller bearing that takes up high radial load and gives stable running under the loading the wheel is built for. The fixed bracket takes up the forces in the direction of travel and holds the wheel steady even at speed. The combination of a light hub and a roller bearing makes the wheel easy to handle without losing steadiness.
The wheels come in diameters from 200 to 260 mm and the series carries up to 160 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over thresholds and obstacles and lowers the rolling resistance, while the smaller one keeps the overall height down. The load capacity shows that this is a wheel for lighter hand carts and equipment, not for heavy industrial carts; that is exactly why it is also easy to handle.
Where does it fit? Light pneumatic casters in a fixed bracket sit under hand trucks, garden carts, tool carts and simpler transport carts that are run both indoors and outdoors. They are a good choice in the garden, in agriculture and around properties, where the ground shifts between gravel, grass and asphalt and where low weight and soft running make the job easier. The straight running from the fixed bracket makes them suitable where the cart is pulled straight ahead, preferably together with swivel casters for steering.
Think about the operating environment. An air-filled tire needs the right air pressure to carry and roll the way it should; too little pressure raises the rolling resistance and wears the sidewall. Check the pressure regularly. Rubber is happy across a wide temperature range, but an air-filled tire can be punctured by sharp objects, so keep nails and sharp scrap out of the way.
