POM is already one of the workshop's favorite materials for sliding pairs and dimensionally stable parts. POM LF Nano takes the friction properties a step further by spreading the lubricant on a nanoscale through the whole polymer matrix. That gives a homogeneous, hard-wearing sliding surface that does not behave as if it had powder in it, which can be the case with coarser LF grades.

The density sits at the same level as a typical modified POM grade, around 1.4 g/cm³. The long-term temperature holds about 100 degrees continuously with short peaks higher, and down to minus 20 degrees works without trouble. The fire rating is HB. Water absorption is low, around 0.7 to 0.9 percent, which means thick sheets hold their dimensions even when the humidity shifts. The material is POM-typically stiff and hard, but the sliding properties against steel and against other plastics lower the operating temperature in the contact surface markedly compared with pure POM C.

Chemically the tolerance is good against mineral oils, greases, fuels, many coolants and weak bases. You should avoid strong acids and powerful oxidizing agents. The material is not for long direct sunlight; the UV resistance is limited.

A sheet in POM LF Nano is meant to be milled or cut into components where the wearing surface is central. Typical applications:

Slide plates in conveyors and packaging machines.

Slide guides in the textile, leather and paper industry.

Scraper blades and guide strips where relubrication is not possible.

Discs for gear drives in low-noise environments.

Components in food machinery with long service intervals.

Machining is easy going. The material gives clean chips, fine surface finishes and holds tolerances well in both milling and water jet cutting. Heat build-up is lower than in pure POM thanks to the lubricant additive, so hard feeds do not chatter in the material. For heavy sheets over 30 millimeters, slow cooling between operations is recommended to avoid built-in stresses; that is the same reasoning that applies to other extruded POM.

Choosing LF Nano over a standard POM is usually about one concrete operating parameter: temperature in the sliding surface, noise level or service life in a pair against steel. If you are facing a sliding pair that has to run dry for thousands of hours, this is the right grade. If the part is static or is not exposed to sliding contact, a POM C is perfectly enough and costs less. For welded or glued parts you should keep in mind that the Nano modification can affect adhesion somewhat, so test in advance.

The sheet is supplied in standard sizes and thicknesses from one millimeter and up. A cutting fee is added for cut-to-size orders. Would you like to discuss which POM grade suits your application best and how the thickness ties into flatness in the finished part? Get in touch.
