Sheet in PS 2000x1000x1.5 mm guldspegel
A mirrored PS sheet in gold mirror at 2000x1000x1.5 mm gives a glossy, metallized surface for decor and display. The surface reflects light and gives the sign or the part an eye-catching look. The format suits displays, decor panels and interior details where appearance is the point.
PS stands for polystyrene, a stiff, amorphous plastic. Amorphous materials have no melting point; they soften gradually as they are heated. The sheet has a density of 1.06 g/cm³ and a hard, smooth surface that takes print well, but it is more brittle than ABS and PC. The yield strength is 18.3 N/mm², the tensile strength 18 N/mm² and the elongation at yield 16.7 percent. The elongation at break is 35.2 percent and the flexural modulus 1650 N/mm². The impact strength is 42 kJ/m² unnotched but drops to 5 kJ/m² at a hole or a notch. The maximum service temperature for continuous use is 65 °C.
The sheet is cut with a circular saw or a jigsaw, milled, drilled and bonded with solvent adhesive. Thermoforming works at low temperature since the material softens gradually. Print, decor films and paint stick well to the surface. For drilling, ordinary twist drills are used, and for CNC milling low depths of cut with good chip clearance are preferred.
The PS sheet suits signs, displays, photo studios, backdrops, interior details and other indoor applications where price and machinability weigh more than mechanical load.
