This is a small ottoman caster in a fixed bracket with a solid wheel in PA6. The wheel is molded in one piece of nylon, so the tread and the hub are the same hard material right through. The hardness sits around 75 degrees Shore D, which makes it one of the stiffer plastic wheels. It is a discreet, low caster meant to sit hidden under furniture and upholstered units, where it is to carry quietly and take up little room.

Nylon has among the lowest rolling resistance of the plastic materials and a low friction. The caster gets going easily and rolls smoothly on even floors, despite its small size. PA6 is hard-wearing and takes both damp and most of the chemicals found in a home or in premises, which makes it tough over time. Since there is no soft tread, there is also nothing that can flatten out or age the way a rubber does.

The hardness of the wheel has a flip side: it damps little and can be heard more clearly on uneven surfaces than a soft wheel. A rubber or polyurethane wheel rolls more quietly and spares sensitive floors better, but takes less load and calls for more care. On an even floor such as parquet, tile or lacquered wood, the PA6 wheel rolls easily and for a long time. On really delicate surfaces you should be careful, since a hard wheel can leave marks.

The wheel sits in a fixed bracket and rolls straight ahead without swiveling. That gives a stable and predictable motion, suitable under furniture that is mostly to be pushed back and forth or sideways. Ottoman casters of this type are made to be almost invisible; they lift the furniture only a centimeter or so and let it glide easily during cleaning or rearranging. The wheel is supplied without a separate bearing, which keeps it simple and maintenance-free.

The diameter is 15 mm, that is to say very small and intended for minimal overall height. A diameter that small gives slightly higher rolling resistance over thresholds and joints, but on flat floors indoors that is rarely noticeable. The load capacity goes up to 25 kg per wheel, which is enough for lighter furniture and upholstered units where four casters share the load.

Where does it fit? This is a caster for low, light furniture indoors where you want the wheel to show as little as possible. It often sits under footstools, ottomans, smaller sofa modules, boxes and upholstered furniture in homes and public spaces. The fixed bracket makes the furniture follow a straight line, and the low overall height makes it look almost as if it rests directly on the floor. The mounting is done with a top plate, a small plate with screw holes that is fixed to the underframe of the furniture.

Think about the operating environment. Nylon is happy at normal indoor temperature and takes damp, but it can pick up moisture over a very long time and turns stiffer in the cold. On glossy and soft floors a hard wheel can leave marks, so a softer alternative can suit better there. On even, tough floors the caster does its job quietly enough and almost entirely without attention.
