Hinges GJ65 26-58x48x9 mm, matte black
The dimensions are 48 mm in length and 9 mm in thickness, with two leaves of different width, 26 mm and 58 mm. The asymmetry is deliberate; the narrower leaf fits on a slim frame or profile edge while the wider one spreads the load over a larger area. The screw holes have a 6.6 mm diameter and the center distance on each leaf is 15 mm and 33 mm. The surface is matte and black, so the hinge blends in against both painted sheet metal and aluminum profile without looking stuck on. All part dimensions are in the manufacturer's data sheet if you want to put the hinge into your CAD model.
Reinforced nylon is a well thought out pivot material. It does not rust, which makes the hinge an obvious choice in settings that are hosed down or wiped with cleaning agents. It never needs greasing; the pivot runs evenly without binding and there is no grease to hold dust and chips. The material is tough and absorbs the vibration that travels through a machine frame without cracking. It also insulates electrically, which helps when building electrical cabinets and enclosures, and the weight is a fraction of a steel hinge.
In maintenance terms this kind of hinge is a rewarding spare part. A rusted steel hinge on an older machine can often be replaced directly if the hole pattern matches, and if you switch to a lift-off model the next service gets easier as a bonus. It is worth keeping a couple in the store; they cost little and hold up for years on the shelf.
A couple of simple rules apply at assembly. Use a screw that fills the hole, a 6.6 mm hole wants an M6 with a washer, and tighten moderately; plastic creeps if the joint is overloaded, and a moderate torque is plenty for a pivot that has to last many years. If the door is long or heavy, two or three hinges spread the load along the edge and reduce the play in each individual pivot. Load values and temperature limits are given by the manufacturer in the data sheet.
The model is part of a larger hinge program from the same manufacturer. If you need the same dimensions with the lift-off the other way, a fixed version or other leaf widths, the sister models are in the same category here in the shop; the hole patterns are often similar, which helps when a design grows.
Lift-off hinges are used where the door now and then has to come away for real. Service hatches in front of pumps, fans and valve packs are the classic example; the technician needs both hands and free working room, and a door swaying on its hinges is mostly in the way. The same goes for inspection hatches on machine guards that come off at changeover and panels that are lifted away for cleaning. Just think about the direction when you draw the hinge in; the right-hand lift-off decides how the door has to be hung for it to work as intended.
A lift-off hinge solves a concrete everyday problem: the door that needs to come away completely, not just open. Hinge GJ65 is an injection molded hinge in reinforced nylon (PA6) with a matte black surface and plain holes for through screws, right-hand lift-off. With the door open it is lifted off the pivot without a single screw being loosened; that is the whole point of the model and the reason to choose it over a fixed version.
