Lever handle HS20 bushing 36x63/M10x45 mm, fitting in plastic, matte black
Lever Handle HS20 with a bushing is injection molded in one piece of PA6 where the M10 thread sits directly in the plastic. The handle contains no metal parts at all; it is therefore completely free from corrosion, electrically insulating and weighs a fraction of the same part in steel. The thread goes 45 mm into the grip, which gives plenty of thread engagement and a mounting that handles the hand forces a control lever normally takes.
The grip measures 63 mm in length and 36 mm in diameter at the mounting, and tapers toward the top in the classic lever shape. The contour fills the hand without sharp edges and works just as well to pull as to push. The diameter of 36 mm also lets the hand work half open instead of clenched; that shows on levers used often. The surface is matte black. It hides fingerprints and small scratches better than glossy designs and gives a more secure grip when the operator works with oily gloves.
PA6, nylon 6, is a tough engineering plastic with high impact strength and good fatigue properties. The material stands up to oils, greases, fuels and most lubricants found in a workshop. One quirk worth knowing is that nylon takes up moisture from the air and becomes somewhat tougher over time; for a handle that is only a good thing, since the impact resistance goes up. And unlike metal the plastic never feels ice cold to touch, something you notice in unheated halls and outdoor environments.
The handle fits everywhere a lever has to be operated by hand: clamping levers on fixtures and workholding devices, clamp levers on welding tables, control levers on workshop machines, controls on agricultural and construction machines and hatches and doors on machine covers. In design work it is a typical catalog part that saves drawing time; you pick a finished handle instead of drawing and turning one of your own.
The choice between the three mounting types in the family is simpler than it looks. A threaded bushing in plastic, as here, is what you choose when the lever already has a threaded stud and you want to avoid metal entirely. A plain hole suits when the handle is to be pressed onto a turned stud, and a threaded steel stud when the handle itself is to be screwed into a lever arm. HS20 with a bushing is, in other words, the right choice when the thread already exists on the machine.
Mounting is simple. Screw the handle onto an M10 stud bolt, threaded stud or screw end and tighten by hand. If the position needs locking we recommend a lock nut against the seating surface rather than liquid thread locker; some thread locking liquids contain substances that plastics do not take well. Avoid tightening with tools as well, the thread in plastic does not need that torque to stay put.
Chemically PA6 handles most of what occurs in a workshop, but long contact with strong acids and strongly oxidizing media should be avoided. If you are unsure about a specific chemical, the manufacturer's data sheet is the reference.
HS20 with a bushing is stocked in this design with an M10 thread. If you need another size or another mounting there are the sister series HS10 and HS30 with a plain hole or a threaded steel stud in several dimensions. The manufacturer's standard pack holds 200 handles, which makes the series practical also for machine builders assembling in volume.
