A machine that stands level runs more quietly, wears more evenly and measures more accurately. Adjustable Foot SF10 is a leveling foot with a base in PA6 and a threaded spindle in steel; with it you compensate for uneven floors and get frames, machines and benches to stand steady on all feet at the same time. Frames standing out of level give twisted frames, doors that stick and conveyors that track sideways; problems that look like machine faults but are really installation faults.

The base is hexagonal, and that is a more considered detail than it looks. The hexagon gives a wrench something to grip; you adjust the height of the foot with an ordinary wrench instead of trying to turn a round base with your fingers under a heavy machine. When installing heavier equipment, where the foot already carries load while the fine adjustment is made, that is the difference between a quick leveling job and scraped knuckles.

The base is injection molded in PA6 with a matte surface. The nylon is tough and impact resistant, stands up to oils, greases and normal cleaning agents and does not scratch the floor the way a steel foot does; on painted or epoxy coated floors that is worth quite a lot. The material does not rust either, so the base looks the same after years in a damp environment.

Why a plastic base instead of all steel? Weight is part of the answer, price another, but the most important one is about the floor. A steel foot that is turned under load leaves marks in painted and coated floors, while nylon slides more softly without digging in. In premises where the floor is part of the hygiene zone it is also an advantage that the base can neither rust fast nor shed paint flakes.

The spindle comes in two designs: zinc plated steel for a normal industrial environment and stainless steel for wet spaces, food production and other places where a zinc layer is not enough. Which one to choose is decided by the environment; zinc plated handles dry and normally damp indoor environments well, while wash zones and chemical exposure speak for stainless.

Leveling feet of this type sit under machine frames, conveyors, workbenches, packing tables, control cabinets and structures built in aluminum profile. In the workshop they even out the unevenness of the floor so that the frame does not twist; in lighter applications they work as simple height adjusters when the bench height is to be matched to the operator. And a structure that stands straight keeps its joints tight longer; neat installations tend to hold together.

A couple of practical tips during leveling. Set the machine roughly level with a spirit level before the load goes on, then fine adjust each foot until they all carry; a foot hanging in the air gives a frame that rocks and bolted joints that come loose over time. Lock the spindle with a lock nut against the frame when the leveling is done, and nothing will wander during operation.

Load data, thread dimension and exact dimensions for SF10 are given in the manufacturer's data sheet; we would rather point to the source than to figures that can be revised. Size with margin, particularly if the load is dynamic or unevenly spread over the feet.

The feet also do good after the fact. Floors settle, frames are reloaded and machines are moved; with adjustable feet a new leveling job is a matter of minutes instead of shim washers and a crowbar. It is the kind of component nobody thinks about until it is missing.
