Sheet in Dispa white is a composite sheet with a core of cellulose based paper and two outer layers of smooth, white paper. The construction gives a very low weight, a rigid sheet and a surface that takes print, paint and glue well. The material is developed for signs, displays and interiors where you want flatness and printability without handling heavy boards.
The weight is the first property you notice. A Dispa sheet weighs a fraction of an equivalent PVC or acrylic sheet in the same dimension, which makes it easy to carry, hang and move. At the same time the bending stiffness is good thanks to the sandwich structure, where the paper core holds the face layers apart and takes up the bending forces.
The surface is smooth, matte and pure white. It suits digital printing (UV, latex, eco solvent), screen printing, vinyl application and painting with water based and light solvent based paints. Thinner glues and wet paint systems can create surface tension in the core, so always test a sample piece before large runs.
Common uses:
Store signs, shelf talkers and POS displays.
Exhibition booths, wall panels and set design for short exposure times.
Architectural models, prototypes and presentation trays.
Interior details, light boxes and backing boards in exhibition environments.
The material is easily cut with a knife, scissors (thinner material), a jigsaw or a CNC router. The cutting and routing tools last a long time since the paper is gentle on the edge. When cutting with a knife the surface edge can turn out slightly uneven, but for printed parts it is easily hidden or the edge is routed.
Dispa is a paper based material and therefore recyclable in the paper stream, which is an advantage compared to composite materials that mix plastic and pulp. That assumes the printing inks and glues are compatible with paper recycling, which most modern UV inks are.
The limitations have to do with environment and time. The material is not meant for outdoor use or damp spaces, since moisture can deform the core and make the face layer buckle. Long term UV exposure can yellow the white face layer slightly over time. Choosing between Dispa and a full plastic such as PVC foam or polypropylene, Dispa wins on weight, environmental profile and print surface for short term exposure, while the full plastic options hold up in damp conditions and outdoors.
In sign production it is common to rout out parts, fold or laminate the material into thicker panels. Mechanical fastening is done with screws and washers in the paper core, or with slotted fittings that grip around the edge without going through the material.
