PE-500, also called PE-HMW, is a medium molecular weight polyethylene that is tougher and more wear resistant than PE-HD. It is the first step up in molecular weight when wear surfaces start to wear on ordinary polyethylene. PE-500 suits slide layers, linings and parts where the mechanical load is greater than PE-HD can take.
The density is 0.96 g/cm³, the tensile modulus 950 MPa and the yield strength 24 MPa. The elongation at break is 500 percent and Shore D 64. The abrasion per Sand-Slurry is 360, with ultra high molecular weight polyethylene as reference 100. The melting point is 135 °C and the continuous maximum service temperature 80 °C.
The material takes temperatures down to -80 °C, has negligible water absorption and good chemical resistance. The dynamic coefficient of friction is 0.25. The fire rating is UL 94 HB and the building fire class B2 per DIN 4102. Food approval is in place per EU 10/2011 and FDA.
PE-500 is used for wear strips, liner plates, slide layers, cutting boards and machine parts. The sheets are cut, drilled and milled with ordinary tools for plastic.
PE-500 is used for wear strips, liner plates, slide layers, cutting boards and machine parts. The sheets are cut, drilled and milled with ordinary tools for plastic. It is a practical choice when PE-HD wears too fast but ultra high molecular weight polyethylene is needlessly expensive.
You get this PE-500 sheet in 2000x1000 mm with a red surface, ready to be cut into linings, strips or cutting boards to your dimensions.
