A Sheet in PEEK CF30 is a high performance thermoplastic where 30 percent carbon fiber raises stiffness, tensile strength and shape stability compared with unfilled PEEK. The material handles 260 degrees continuously and briefly up to 300 degrees, which means the sheet can be used in places where standard engineering plastics gave up long ago.
Mechanically PEEK CF30 delivers about 112 MPa in tension according to ISO 527 and a ball indentation hardness of 298 MPa. The carbon fiber also lifts thermal conductivity to around 0.66 W/mK, which is worth a lot in plain bearings where friction heat otherwise piles up in the contact surface. Water absorption is 0.03 percent. The dimensions barely change with moisture, and that dimensional stability is the whole point in precision machinery.
Chemically the material takes fuels, hydraulic oils, process gases and most solvents. Hot steam, sterilization and autoclaving go through without the surface or the mechanics breaking down. Fire rating V0 according to UL 94 makes the sheet useful in rail, aviation and offshore applications where fire requirements otherwise close the door on polymer solutions.
The sheet is used for wear plates in bearings, wear plates in conveyor belts, insulation at high temperatures, valve components, semiconductor equipment and construction parts in pumps and compressors. It also works as a blank for milled or turned parts where a round rod would have given too much waste. The carbon fiber reinforcement makes the material slightly electrically conductive, which is enough as ESD protection in many electronics environments.
Machining calls for sharp carbide tools and solid chip extraction. The carbon fiber wears the cutting edge faster than unfilled PEEK, so plan for more tool changes in series production. Drilling, milling and turning work with conservative feeds and good cooling, even though PEEK basically tolerates dry machining. Bonding succeeds with epoxy after primer or plasma activation. Welding works with hot gas or ultrasound, but common practice in design is mechanical fastening.
PEEK CF30 is an expensive material, and the choice is justified by the fact that nothing else handles the combination of 260 degrees, high mechanical performance, chemical resistance and V0 in one and the same piece. When you are standing between graphite filled, glass filled and carbon fiber filled PEEK, CF30 is the choice for maximum stiffness and thermal dissipation. Glass filled grades suit better where electrically insulating properties are a requirement.
The sheets are cut in our cutting department to the length and width you want. Standard thicknesses and formats vary; state the size and tolerance and we will come back with what is possible to supply. Do you need help choosing the right PEEK grade for your application? The large 2000 x 1000 mm sheet in gray CF30 yields many stiff components from one and the same sheet, handy for series of light load-bearing parts.
