Sheet in POM C FG 1000x1000 mm natural

POM C FG is food approved POM C. The letters stand for food grade and mean the material is formulated and manufactured according to the regulations for direct food contact, both within the EU and according to FDA. Mechanically and thermally it is the same material as standard POM C; it is the additives and the process controls that differ.

The density is 1.41 g/cm³ and the material handles 105 degrees continuously. The lowest working temperature is -40 degrees. Water absorption is 0.8 percent, which is low and keeps the tolerances still even in damp environments such as meat processing rooms, dairies and water based processes. The flammability rating is HB.

The sheet format is the most common one for workshops that make milled parts, slide pieces, guide strips and breaker arms for the food industry. POM C FG is usually supplied in two neutral colors:
- Natural (slightly yellow-white), the most common version
- Blue, used where visual detection of material debris in the production line is a requirement (HACCP friendly)

Typical applications are slide bushings and guide strips in packaging machines, gears in conveyor drives, slide plates in belt conveyors, guide rails in bottle handling machines and breaker arms in filling equipment. The low friction of the material against stainless steel means sliding pairs work without lubrication, which matters in environments where oil could contaminate the product.

Chemically POM C FG takes the cleaning agents that are common in the food industry: alkaline foam washes, mildly chlorinated disinfectants and hot water jets. The material is broken down by strong acids and heavy chlorine solutions, so stay with the cleaning regime the supplier recommends. Against hot water POM C FG is dimensionally stable and can be cleaned with steam up to a short exposure if the temperature is kept below 120 degrees.

Machining is the same as for standard POM C: sharp edges, good chip clearance and moderate cooling. The sheet is milled, turned and drilled without special tools. Ground surfaces come out naturally smooth and rarely need any post treatment. Remember to mark and separate the FG offcuts from standard POM C in the workshop, so food approved parts are always produced out of the right material stream.

Standard dimensions are available in a wide thickness range from thin film up to thick sheet material. We cut the sheets to size, either to fixed panel sizes or to your drawing data. A cutting charge is added when we split a whole sheet.

The 1000x1000 mm square in natural gives a clean starting stock for scrapers and guide parts against food, since the FG quality is approved for direct contact with food.
