PTFE CP23 GR2 is pure PTFE reinforced with 23 percent carbon powder and 2 percent graphite. The filler solves the weak point of the fluoroplastic: pure PTFE cold flows under constant pressure and deforms over time. The carbon stabilizes the matrix, raises the compressive strength and reduces creep without losing the chemical resistance of the fluoroplastic.
The material keeps the properties of the PTFE base. The service temperature runs continuously up to 260 degrees and the material handles cryogenic conditions down toward 200 degrees below zero. The density sits slightly above pure PTFE, around 2.17 g/cm3 plus the contribution from the carbon. The fire rating is V0.
The chemical resistance is total in practice. The sheet handles concentrated acids, bases, solvents and most industrial chemicals that crush ordinary engineering plastics. Only molten alkali metal and fluorine under pressure count as real exceptions. The carbon filling does not affect that part to any noticeable degree.
Friction against steel is low and the material is self lubricating. The carbon is far gentler on the mating surface than glass filled grades and the graphite lubricates dry, so the material works against softer mating surfaces as well.
The sheet format is used mainly where you need to cut out gaskets, sealing rings or slide plates. Typical scenarios:
Flange gaskets in chemical processes with temperature and aggressive media.
Valve seats and sealing plates in pumps.
Slide plates against thermal movement, for example under heat exchangers and exhaust pipes where expansion has to be absorbed.
Support rings in hydraulics and pneumatics where the material has to keep its shape under pressure.
Insulating plates in high temperature environments, thanks to the dielectric properties of PTFE.
The sheet is machined with ordinary tools for cutting plastic. Sharp edges, moderate feed and good cooling give clean cuts. CP23 GR2 is less prone to flow when cut than pure PTFE, which makes the dimensional tolerances easier to hold. The carbon filling wears the cutting edge less than glass fiber, but carbide is still the standard.
For welding or bonding you should know that PTFE is fundamentally hard to glue. Etching or a mechanical fastener is almost always required. This applies to the carbon filled grade as well.
At 1000x1000 mm in natural the sheet covers sliding surfaces that wear hard and have to lubricate dry at the same time, with both carbon powder and graphite in the material.
The sheet is supplied in natural color, white to off-white depending on the filler content. If you want another thickness, dimension or a part cut to drawing, we arrange it. If you need help choosing between pure PTFE, a carbon filled grade such as CP23 GR2 or a glass fiber filled grade, get in touch and we will go through the load picture and the mating surface together.
