Sheet in PVDF LF is polyvinylidene fluoride with an additive that lowers friction and improves wear resistance compared with standard PVDF. The density is about 1.78 g/cm3. The material is firm and sturdy in the hand, which you notice clearly next to ordinary polyolefins such as PE-HD or PP.

Thermally the sheet handles continuous service around 150 degrees, with shorter peaks slightly above, plus cooling down to around -20 degrees without turning brittle. The fire rating is V0, the material self-extinguishes once the ignition source is removed. Water uptake is negligible, around 0.04 percent, which means stable dimensions even after long exposure to a damp environment.

What separates PVDF LF from the base grade is the friction. The additive gives a lower coefficient of friction against steel and other metals, while the surface becomes more wear resistant. That makes the sheet useful as a plain bearing, wear protection, guide strips, gasket seats or belt supports where the media is aggressive at the same time. Standard sliding plastics such as POM or PE-1000 do not work in environments where concentrated acids, chlorinated solvents or oxidizing media are what they are up against.

Chemically PVDF handles a broad list of chemicals: concentrated acids, strong oxidizing agents, halogens, alcohols and chlorinated hydrocarbons. The material is also approved for many food applications in the base grades, but the LF additive can limit the approval, so check the datasheet for food or pharmaceutical contact.

Machining is straightforward. PVDF LF can be milled, turned, sawn, drilled and water jet cut with standard tools. For machine work, sharp edges and moderate feeds are recommended to avoid heat build-up, which otherwise can give dimensional deviations and a poorer surface finish. Welding is done with hot gas or the extrusion technique suited to fluoroplastics.

In sheet form, PVDF LF is often used in the chemical industry, pulp and paper, surface finishing and semiconductor manufacturing. Common parts are slide rails in conveyors for aggressive media, wear plates in agitators, linings in tanks with moving surfaces plus packing washers where low friction saves drive energy. The thickness of the sheet is chosen from the load and the wear volume, thinner for lining, thicker for a load-bearing function.

When choosing thickness and format, a larger format needs fewer joints and welds, which cuts the number of potential leak points in critical environments. Get in touch if you want to check the stocked dimensions against your drawings.
