Round rod in PEEK LF Nano is blank material developed for turned sliding components that have to keep low friction and low wear over a long time. The sliding additive on a nanometer scale is spread evenly through the polymer, which gives an even surface character even after extensive wear. Service runs continuously at 260 degrees with short peaks toward 300 degrees.
The mechanical base is solid. Tensile strength sits around 106 MPa according to ISO 527, ball indentation hardness at 253 MPa and impact strength at 58 kJ per square meter. Thermal conductivity of 0.46 W/mK is higher than unfilled PEEK and carries frictional heat away from bearings and seals more effectively. Water absorption of 0.03 percent keeps the dimensions constant through changes in moisture and temperature, which is decisive in precision fits.
Chemically the material handles fuels, hydraulic fluids, process chemicals and most solvents. Sterilization with steam, autoclave and gamma radiation is no problem. Fire rating V0 according to UL 94 opens the door to applications in rail traffic, aviation, defense and offshore installations where fire requirements otherwise shut the door on thermoplastics.
The uses are classic for glide optimized PEEK: bushings, plain bearings, piston rings, compressor rings, backup rings for seals, valve components and spindles in pumps. The material suits especially well where lubricant is banned, not permitted or impractical, for example in food production, semiconductor manufacturing or dry processes in the chemical industry. The even spread of the sliding additive means the mating surface keeps its character even after run-in and wear, which is not always true for PTFE filled grades where the additive can be depleted at the surface.
Machining follows PEEK practice. Sharp carbide tools, high cutting speed, conservative feed and plenty of chip clearance. Cooling is recommended in series production even though PEEK tolerates dry machining. Drilling, turning and milling work excellently. Bonding succeeds with epoxy after plasma or primer treatment, but mechanical fasteners are the first choice in technical work.
The choice of LF Nano over unfilled PEEK is justified by the cost of friction driven wear in the application. When standard resistance is enough, unfilled PEEK costs less. When friction and wear set the design, the glide optimization pays off directly in longer service intervals.
The round rod is delivered in standard diameters and cut to the length you want. Send over the dimensions and we will come back with what is available and the delivery time.
