PI, that is polyimide, is the most heat resistant plastic we sell. This grade has graphite blended in, 15 percent, which lubricates dry. GR15 means 15 percent graphite, a content that lowers the friction without making the material too brittle.
The material has no melting point but keeps its shape where other plastics are gone, and it matches fire rating UL 94 V-0. The graphite lowers the tensile strength to 93 MPa compared with the unfilled grade, but in return the moisture uptake falls sharply.
The weakness is hydrolysis, that is hot water and steam. Where the surface has to slide dry and take heat, the graphite filled gray grade is hard to beat.
The round rod in PI GR15, gray, is 1000 mm long and is made for turning into precision parts that have to take heat and mechanical load.
