Industrial caster in a fixed bracket with a solid wheel in PA6

This industrial caster has a fixed bracket and a solid wheel in PA6 with a hardness of 93 degrees Shore A, that is, a slightly softer nylon grade than the very hardest in the range. The fixed bracket locks the wheel in the rolling direction, so it runs straight ahead and contributes tracking rather than maneuvering. Use it where you want a set line of travel, for example as the direction-giving pair under a longer transport cart.

The tread and the hub are molded in the same nylon. PA6 is a hard material with high dimensional stability, and since the wheel is solid the surface barely deforms under load. That gives a low and even rolling force. The contact surface against the floor is small, which lets the wheel get going easily and roll with little resistance even when the cart is loaded. For this grade the load capacity goes up to 550 kg per wheel, a level that suits medium-heavy carts and equipment where you still want the low friction of nylon.

How should you think about the material choice? A hard nylon wheel rolls easily and carries well, but it damps little and passes on both noise and vibration from uneven floors. A softer wheel in rubber or elastic polyurethane does the opposite: quieter running, more damping and gentler on sensitive surfaces, but lower load capacity and higher rolling resistance. The PA6 wheel is the choice when you prioritize easy rolling and wear resistance on an even, load-bearing ground, not shock absorption on a rough surface.

The PA6 hub sits on a plain bearing. The plain bearing is uncomplicated and maintenance-free, it takes dust, moisture and spills and handles the odd shock load without damage. It suits places where the wheel does not spin constantly but is moved at regular intervals, which is common for fixed steering casters. The nylon hub does not rust and keeps the weight of the wheel itself down.

The diameter runs between 150 and 200 mm. A larger diameter rolls more smoothly over thresholds, floor joints and cable ducts and lowers the rolling resistance, while the smaller one keeps the overall height down where the space under a chassis is limited. The bracket is mounted with a top plate, a plate with four screw holes that is bolted to the underframe and gives a steady fastener suited to industrial use.

Where does the caster fit in? The PA6 caster in a fixed bracket is used under transport carts, roller tables, machine underframes and material carts in workshops, warehouses and production. The nylon takes most oils, greases and mild chemicals, so the caster works well in a workshop environment where there are spills on the floor. On a cart the fixed casters are often combined with swivel casters at the other end, so you get both direction of travel and swiveling.

Think about the operating environment. PA6 is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp premises. After a loaded wheel has stood still for a longer while it can feel a little heavier to pull into motion; that lets go once the wheel starts rolling and is normal for hard treads.
