Wheel in a fixed bracket with rubber tread and PP hub
This is a wheel in a fixed bracket with a tread in rubber and a hub in PP, a quiet and floor friendly wheel for straight transport indoors. The rubber tread has a hardness of 80 degrees Shore A, a medium soft rubber that lays itself well against the surface. It takes up shocks and vibration and damps the noise, which is clearly noticeable in a space where several people work close to the transport routes.
The fixed bracket holds the wheel in a set direction. It rolls straight and does not turn sideways, which makes it the track holding part of a rig. Together with swiveling wheels at the other end of the cart you get both good maneuvering and a straight, stable run over longer distances. For transport routes with long straight stretches the fixed bracket is the right choice.
How does the tread behave in operation? At 80 Shore A the rubber is a little softer than a typical medium hard wheel, which gives a softer start and better damping but at the same time somewhat higher rolling resistance. It is a deliberate trade off: you swap a little easy rolling for comfort and quiet. Compare with a hard plastic or nylon wheel, which rolls more easily and carries more but is noisier and can scratch sensitive floors. This wheel sits on the softer, floor friendly side of the scale and suits places where the surface has to be protected.
The hub in PP is light, inexpensive and free from rust, which makes the wheel easy to handle and suitable in damp spaces. Here the wheel runs on a plain bearing, a simple and maintenance free design that takes dust, dirt and wet well. The rolling resistance becomes somewhat higher than with a ball bearing, but for transport at low speed and with many stops a plain bearing is a durable and reliable solution with few parts that can wear.
The wheel comes in a diameter of 80 mm and carries up to 100 kg per wheel. The smaller diameter keeps the overall height down, which is an advantage where it is low or tight under the cart or the machine. It is mounted with a top plate, a plate with four screw holes that is screwed to the underframe and spreads the load evenly over the whole fastener.
Where does it fit? Under transport carts, picking carts, roll tables, cleaning carts and lighter machine underframes in workshops, warehouses, shops and care environments. The soft tread makes it suitable on painted and ground concrete as well as tiles where you want to avoid marks, and the low noise level is a concrete advantage in quiet spaces. The low overall height makes the wheel practical under equipment that has to sit close to the floor.
Think about the operating environment. The rubber tread is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp settings. If the wheel stands still for a long time under full load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while; that belongs to soft rubber grades and is not a fault. Dark rubber can in some cases leave marks on very light floors.
