The PTFE CP23 GR2 tube is a blank format for you who need to turn sleeves, bushings and rings without starting from full rod. The inner and outer diameter are predetermined, which saves both material and machining time compared with boring out a solid blank. The glass fiber addition in CP23 GR2 makes the material noticeably stiffer and more dimensionally stable than pure PTFE, which is exactly what you want in a turned part that sits under constant pressure.
The material keeps the chemical resistance of PTFE. That means the tube takes almost anything a chemical process can throw at it, from concentrated acids and bases to chlorine, solvents and oxidizing media. The temperature runs continuously up toward 260 degrees, short term somewhat higher, and the material is functional far down into cryogenic temperatures. The flammability rating is V0.
The density is high for a thermoplastic, around 2.17 g/cm3 plus filler. The friction against steel is low and the material is self lubricating, which means finished parts often manage without a lubricant in bearing and sealing applications. The glass fiber raises the wear resistance at higher contact pressure.
Typical uses for tube blanks:
Sealing sleeves and support rings in valves, pumps and hydraulics.
Slide bushings in process equipment where chemicals or high temperatures rule out other plastics.
Insulating sleeves and dielectric components.
Sealing and guide elements where a ready made hole geometry saves machining time.
Machining is done with carbide inserts. The glass fiber is abrasive, so count on a shorter tool life than with pure PTFE. A moderate feed, a sharp insert and a moderate speed give even, clean surfaces. The material drills and taps without drama. PTFE based materials do not bond easily since the surface is low energy, even when it is glass fiber filled. Use a press fit, a mechanical fastener or etch the surface if chemical joining is necessary.
Think about the mating surface. A glass fiber filled PTFE is somewhat harder and more abrasive than pure PTFE and can wear soft metals. Against hardened steel, hard chrome or ceramic the pair is stable and wear resistant. For sliding against softer metals a carbon filled or bronze filled grade is often a better choice.
The tube is supplied in a white to bone white natural color. Inner diameter, outer diameter and length are matched to your need. If you want to compare CP23 GR2 against pure PTFE or against a carbon filled or bronze filled grade, get in touch and we will go through load, mating surface and chemical environment together.
At 2000 mm in natural you get several dry lubricated rings out of the same piece.
