Sheet in PEEK 1000x1220x8 mm beige

PEEK is one of the toughest engineering plastics there is. As a sheet you get a semi finished product that combines high temperature resistance with good mechanical strength and low tendency to creep, which makes it useful where other engineering plastics run out.

The material holds 260 degrees continuously and takes short peaks up to 300 degrees. That means a PEEK part can stay in a process where PA, POM or PET would long since have softened or deformed. The fire rating is V0 to UL 94, which is useful in automotive, aerospace and electrical applications where a self extinguishing material is required.

Mechanically the tensile strength to ISO 527 is around 116 MPa and the ball indentation hardness around 253. The material keeps its stiffness far up in temperature and has low friction against steel, which makes it attractive for sliding and abrasive applications. The impact toughness is limited compared with PA, but is made up for by PEEK holding its properties across a considerably wider temperature range.

The water absorption is around 0.03 percent, which means dimensional stability is good even in a damp environment. Chemically PEEK resists practically all industrial solvents, bases and weak acids. Concentrated sulfuric acid attacks the material, but in other environments you can normally count on the same machine part year in and year out.

The sheet in PEEK is used for components where heat, chemistry and mechanics meet at the same time. Typical applications are wear strips in packaging machines, bushings and thrust bearings in high speed setups, insulating parts in measuring equipment, cams and guides in sterilizers, and customer specific machine parts that have to take autoclaving. In medical technology and lab environments PEEK is often the choice when stainless steel becomes too heavy or conducts when it should not.

The sheet is normally supplied in beige natural color. That is the color of the PEEK base material itself. Thicknesses run from thin sheet material and upward, and we saw and mill it to the measurement you want. In CNC machining, count on the material being hard, but kind to the tools as long as you keep the feed low and cool properly. The direction of slots and drilling is worth taking into account, since extruded PEEK sheets can carry small internal stresses that release during stock removal.

Keep in mind that PEEK pays off over its service life, not at the moment of purchase. Work it out against running time, replacement intervals and the cost of standstill instead of against the price tag per kilo.
