Sheet in PVDF GB 1500x1500x0.8 mm natural
Sheet in PVDF GB is PVDF with glass beads added. The beads are round and inert, so they raise stiffness and dimensional stability without the anisotropic orientation you get from glass fiber. The result is a sheet that holds its dimensions more evenly through temperature swings and that twists less during machining. The density is around 1.68 g/cm³, slightly lower than unfilled PVDF depending on bead size and filler content.
The properties of the base material are still there. The long-term temperature is 150 degrees continuous, the fire rating is V0 to UL 94, water absorption is negligible and the chemical resistance covers halogens, concentrated acids, chlorinated solvents and most organic chemicals. Against hot strong bases and certain polar aprotic solvents there are limits; always check against a chemical resistance table before the application goes into service.
The difference from unfilled PVDF shows up in machining and wear. The glass beads make the material more abrasive against the cutting edge, so coated carbide and the right tool geometry pay off. Cooling when milling and drilling is recommended. In return you get a sheet that does not shrink or swell as easily through temperature changes and that stays flatter in thin parts. The surface can be polished but does not reach the same finish as unfilled PVDF, because the beads stand up slightly after grinding.
Uses are tool building for chemical process equipment, fixtures and mold parts that have to keep their geometry despite variable temperature, gaskets and flange rings against aggressive media, plus insulating washers and spacer plates in equipment where both chemical resistance and dimensional stability are critical. In labs and pilot plants the material suits base plates and fixtures mounted close to heaters or reactors.
As a sheet material, PVDF GB is weldable with the same technique as unfilled PVDF, but the joint comes out harder and somewhat more porous depending on the bead content. When building tanks and vessels where the weld has to hold the medium, unfilled PVDF can be the better choice; PVDF GB shines in assembled structures where the sheet forms a structural wall or a fixed part rather than a welded joint.
The natural color is bone white and a little more opaque than unfilled PVDF. Sheet dimensions and thicknesses are available in the standard range; cut to size on order. When stored stacked, the sheets should lie flat and dry, even though the material itself does not take up moisture in any meaningful amount.
Compared with unfilled PVDF you get higher stiffness, better dimensional stability and slightly poorer weldability. Compared with glass-fiber filled PVDF you get less of a strength increase but much better dimensional isotropy, which is worth more than it sounds when the sheet is to be milled into thin or narrow parts.
With only 0.8 mm thickness in the 1500x1500 mm format, this is a thin barrier sheet, where the glass-mesh backing bites into a glass-fiber laminate so the plastic takes the chemistry while the laminate carries the tank.
