Dispa RE is a display board made entirely in paper, here as a sheet at 3048x1524 mm in 3.8 mm thickness, white with a matte surface on both sides. The construction is a light weight board; the full format weighs only 3.9 kg, and that shows every time a board has to be carried through the store, hung from a ceiling or moved on the exhibition floor.

The weight matters more than you would think in this trade. Light boards cut the freight cost per campaign, can be hung in simpler suspensions without reinforcement and can be handled by one person during assembly; for a chain changing campaign material in a hundred stores at the same time, the sum of such details quickly shows in both time and money.

RE stands for the recycled version. The board is made from 100 percent recycled material, is FSC labeled and recyclable as well; when the campaign is over it is sorted as paper, without disassembly and without special handling. For printers and chains with stated environmental goals for campaign material, that is a simpler calculation than plastic based boards that need a recycling stream of their own.

The print surface is built for print. Digital printing and screen printing are the home ground of this board, latex printing also works well, and the matte white finish gives even color reproduction without disturbing reflections in store lighting. The board is delivered without protective film and is ready to print straight away; if you need double sided displays the surface is matte on both sides.

The machining calls for no special machines. Cutting, routing and drilling give clean cuts, cold bending gives neat angles for angled displays and gluing works very well; all of it is done with tools that are already in a normal display or sign workshop. Avoid laser cutting, hot bending and thermoforming, though; those methods are simply not made for the paper construction.

The impact toughness is good for a paper product. The board takes normal handling during assembly, transport and campaign changes without edges and corners folding at the first knock. That means the boards often survive to be reused between campaigns.

The uses are where printed material has to go up quickly and come down just as quickly: store displays, campaign signs, exhibition booths, POS material, photo mounting and interior details with a short life cycle. In that role it competes with foam boards in PVC and polystyrene, and the difference is not in the print result but in what happens afterwards; the paper board goes straight into the paper collection. Printers often use it as their standard choice when the customer asks for a better environmental option without wanting to compromise on print quality.

Exhibition builders value the same properties for other reasons. The booth has to go up in a day, stand for three and come down in an evening; boards that are easy to carry, quick to cut on site and can be left in the paper recycling when the show closes remove several irritations in one go.

The board is made for indoor use. The UV resistance is not enough for outdoor exposure, and being a paper material it should not sit in damp environments; if you need a sign that stands up to wind and weather, a rigid plastic sheet is the right choice instead.

The 3048x1524 mm format gives plenty of surface to divide into smaller display formats with little waste, and for volume buyers it is worth knowing that a full pallet holds 250 boards. Cut pieces weigh almost nothing, which simplifies the distribution out to the stores.
