Handle grip HG10 29/22x108 mm, matte white
Handle grip HG10 is a push-on grip in thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) for tubes and round bars with a 22 mm outside diameter. The grip turns a bare steel tube into a handle that is pleasant to hold; the surface is soft, slip resistant and feels considerably warmer against the hand than metal. This version is matte white, a choice that suits settings where the equipment has to look clean and where dirt should show up at once.
The dimensions come from the manufacturer's data sheet: 22 mm inside diameter, 29 mm outside diameter and 108 mm length. That gives a grip diameter that fills the hand without feeling clumsy, and a length that covers a normal one-hand grip with good margin. The grip is pushed onto the end of the tube and held in place by the tension of the material itself, with no screws, glue or clamping rings.
TPE combines the softness of rubber with the durability of a thermoplastic. The material does not turn sticky, does not dry out and does not crack the way older rubber grips tend to after a few years in service. The matte surface hides fingerprints and light scratches, so the handle looks well kept even after long use. And since the surface is closed, it can be wiped down with a cloth and a mild cleaning agent.
Compared with a hard plastic grip, the elastomer also gives a better hold for gloves and damp hands. Hard grips have their place on cranks and handwheels where the hand needs to slide around; on a pull handle you want friction instead, and that is exactly what the elastomer gives. If the grip is damaged it is replaced in a minute or so, which is cheaper than replacing the whole handle.
White is often chosen as a signal color. In commercial kitchens, laboratories, care settings and production close to food, contamination has to be spotted at once, and a white grip shows clearly when it is time to clean. We see this kind of grip on pull carts and roll cages, on control handles for packaging machines, on sampling equipment and on custom built fixtures where the designer wants a finished grip instead of tape wound around the tube. Makers of exercise equipment and assistive devices use the same solution, often in light colors just like this.
From a work environment point of view a soft grip does more good than you might think. Anyone who pulls the same cart fifty times a shift notices the difference between cold metal and an elastomer that gives slightly under the fingers. Less gripping force is needed for the same control, and the hands tire more slowly towards the end of the day.
Assembly is simple but gains from the right technique. A proven trick is to blow compressed air between tube and grip while the sleeve is pushed on; the air expands the elastomer and the grip slides into place without force. Soapy water works too. Avoid oil based lubricants though, since they can leave the grip creeping along the tube long after assembly. For removal a worn out grip is most easily cut off with a knife, or worked loose with compressed air if it is to be reused.
Check the outside diameter of the tube with a caliper before you order. The grip is made for 22 mm; on a thinner tube it sits loose, and on a thicker one the assembly gets needlessly stiff. If you need a longer grip for 25 mm tube, we have the sister model HG40 in matte black.
