Sheet in PCT MG 1219x610x12 mm transparent

PCT MG is a modified polyester in the PCT family, related to PET but with higher crystallinity and a wider temperature window than standard PET. The sheet is supplied as an extruded semi-finished product and is used above all where you need a dimensionally stable construction material that lets itself be machined in CNC and on the lathe without deforming as the chips come off. The material is opaque in its normal version and has an even, hard surface.

Technically PCT sits between PET and the more specialized polyesters. The material is hard, tough and has low creep under moderate load, which makes it suitable for parts that have to sit stable over time without reworking. Water absorption is low, which gives dimensional stability in damp environments too. Chemically the sheet resists weak acids and bases, alcohol and some solvents; strong oxidizing agents and hot alkaline environments should be avoided.

Mechanically you get a good combination of tensile strength and wear resistance, while the material is not as brittle as some harder engineering plastics. That means a part handles both static and dynamic load, and machined edges come out clean without chipping. Heat insulation is typical for a hard crystalline polyester and the material can be an option where PET does not reach thermally and PEEK gets too expensive.

The uses are industrial construction parts; guides, spacers, bearing housings, wear plates and positioning fixtures. The material also shows up in machine parts near food production where dimensional stability and low water absorption matter more than optical transparency. In tool making the sheet is used for fixtures and mold parts that have to take repeated assembly without going slack.

Machining is done as for other hard polyesters. Sawing with a fine-toothed blade, milling with sharp tools and good chip clearance give the cleanest cut. Narrower drills suit clean holes better than wider ones; use a center drill to stop the bit sliding on the hard surface. The material turns well with a sharp edge and moderate feed. Bonding is possible with cyanoacrylate or two-component adhesive, but mechanical fastening is the most common in construction parts.

On choosing: PCT MG suits you when you need machinability, shape stability and a reliable hard surface without paying for fluoropolymers or PEEK. If you want higher temperature you should look at PPS or PEEK; if you want chemical cleanliness and flexibility, POM C is often easier to find in stock.
