    PI, that is polyimide, is the most heat resistant plastic we sell. The brown grade carries most of the range and is the natural choice when the temperature knocks out ordinary engineering plastics.

    Polyimide is amorphous and therefore has no melting point. The brown grade is dimensionally stable up to 319 degrees and has a tensile strength of 130 MPa. It does not burn, but matches fire rating UL 94 V-0. That is pure heat resistance, without glass fiber or carbon fiber holding it up.

    PI insulates electrically and holds 34.3 kV per millimeter in the brown grade. The clearest weakness is moisture: the material takes up water and is sensitive to hydrolysis, that is hot water and steam. Where it gets to sit dry and hot, on the other hand, it is hard to beat.

    This sheet in PI is 750x300 mm in brown, a format that suits wear plates, sliding surfaces and bearing blanks that are then cut or machined to size.
