Round Rod in PEEK 2000 mm black

Round rod in PEEK is the raw material for turned parts that have to work where other engineering plastics give up. It is used for bushings, plain bearings, gears, valve parts and customer specific machine parts in process and manufacturing industry.

PEEK holds 260 degrees continuously and takes 300 degrees for short periods. That opens the door to applications close to heat exchangers, steam tubes and autoclaves without the machine part warping or starting to creep. The fire rating is V0 to UL 94, so the material is of interest where fire and smoke requirements govern.

Mechanically PEEK is stiff and firm. The tensile strength to ISO 527 is around 116 MPa, the ball indentation hardness around 253. The material has good friction behavior against steel and is wear resistant even at raised temperature. The water absorption is around 0.03 percent, which means turned parts keep their dimensions even in damp operation. That is a big difference from PA grades that move several tenths of a millimeter when they take up moisture.

Chemically PEEK handles solvents, oils, bases and most process media. Concentrated sulfuric acid is one of the few exceptions. In practice the rod is used for parts that have to withstand CIP and SIP cleaning, steam sterilization or direct contact with aggressive fluids.

PEEK behaves well in turning. Use sharp tools with a positive rake angle, moderate feed and plenty of cooling. Heavy chips are fine, but in finishing it pays to keep the feed down for a good surface finish. Drilling should be done with a short rake angle and air blowing, since long chips easily wind around the drill. Keep in mind that preheated blanks lower the risk of internal stresses in the finished part, especially in asymmetric machining of large diameters.

The rod is supplied in diameters from small bushing sizes up to heavy turning blanks. The standard color is beige natural.
