Round rod in PEEK+PTFE is the raw material when you turn parts that have to combine high temperature, chemical resistance and low friction. The PTFE phase in the PEEK matrix gives a self lubricating behavior, so bushings and sliding components can work dry without stick-slip or rising friction over time.
The service temperature is 260 degrees continuous with 300 degrees as the short term limit. The lowest temperature lies far below zero, the material does not stiffen and does not lose impact strength. The fire rating is V0, which is a requirement in many rail, aerospace and defense applications. The water uptake is a modest 0.03 percent, so turned parts keep their dimensional tolerances even when the humidity varies.
Mechanically the tensile strength is around 96 MPa and the ball indentation hardness around 205 N/mm². The impact strength of 46 kJ/m² means parts take both handling and dropped tools without cracking. The coefficient of friction is noticeably lower than for pure PEEK, and the wear volume under PV operation is low. The material shows no tendency to seize when starting from standstill.
The rod is ideal for turned parts such as bushings, slide rings, shaft stubs, wear rings in pumps, valve guides and seal carriers. In process industry it is used for dry running bearings in systems where lubricants are forbidden or unsuitable, for example in food, pharmaceutical and semiconductor applications. In autoclavable medical instruments PEEK+PTFE is a common choice thanks to the combination of a biocompatible host matrix and low friction against moving parts.
In aerospace and defense applications the rod is found in hydraulic and pneumatic components where sealing and sliding happen at the same time, and in fuel flow parts where the V0 fire rating is mandatory. The energy industry uses the stability of the material in steam environments and hot oil for valve parts and stuffing boxes.
Machining is done with sharp carbide tools. PEEK+PTFE is heat insulating, so the chip carries the heat away. Keep the cutting speed at a good level, the feed moderate, and change tools before the edge goes dull. The PTFE phase can smear at too high a temperature, which shows up as a glossy surface with no chip formation. Then you lower the heat in the cutting zone or change the edge. The material can be threaded, milled and drilled without preheating. For heavy diameters, annealing after rough turning can relieve residual stresses and give more stable final dimensions.
Bonding requires surface activation because the PTFE content lowers the surface energy, but mechanical joints, press assembly and threaded fasteners work without special treatment. The material can be contact welded in special processes, but for standard applications screw joints are usually faster and simpler.
The choice of diameter is governed by the largest dimension of the finished part plus the machining allowance. For solid parts the round rod is right; for large inside diameters a hollow bar can save material and time. The color of the base grade is beige natural, with some gray shade mixed in from the PTFE phase.
The beige PEEK+PTFE rod at 3000 mm is turned into bushings and slide bushings where the PTFE content makes the surface slipperier.
