A round rod in PTFE CP25 is a blank for turned parts where pure PTFE falls short. Because bronze powder has been mixed into the fluoropolymer matrix, you get higher compressive strength, clearly better heat conduction and less cold flow, while low friction, a wide temperature window and the V0 fire rating come along from the base material.

This combination is the reason CP25 often ends up in loaded plain bearings. Friction heat in an ordinary PTFE bearing builds up locally and weakens the material exactly where the load is highest. The bronze leads the heat away and allows higher PV values, which extends the service life of the bearing in operation.

The material handles 260 degrees continuously and works far down into cryogenic temperatures. The density is high; a CP25 rod weighs noticeably more than PA, POM or a comparable PE rod. The wear resistance against steel is high and the coefficient of friction is low. The material is self lubricating and does not need grease or oil in most bearing applications.

Chemically the PTFE matrix is practically impossible to attack. The bronze powder, though, is a metal and can corrode in strongly acidic or oxidizing media. For neutral, alkaline and moderately acidic environments CP25 is still a strong candidate, but for aggressive chemistry without high mechanical demands, pure PTFE or a glass fiber filled grade is usually more suitable.

Typical parts that are turned from CP25:

Plain bearings and bushings against steel shafts with high contact pressure or high PV values.

Piston wear bands, back-up rings and guide elements in hydraulics and pneumatics.

Seal rings in pumps and compressors that run thermally hard.

Valve seats where heat dissipation matters.

Wear parts in conveyors and positioners.

Machining is uncomplicated with carbide inserts. The bronze powder wears more than pure PTFE but less than glass fiber, so tool life is decent. Sharp inserts, moderate feed and good cooling give clean surfaces and good dimensions. The material drills and taps without trouble. Bonding is still difficult, the surface is low energy. Use press fit, shrink fitting or mechanical fasteners.

Think about the mating surface. CP25 is a fairly gentle material against steel and works well against hardened steel, hard chrome and ceramics. Against soft metals the bronze can contribute to galling under unfavorable conditions; there a carbon filled version is the better pick. For environments without pressure but with difficult chemistry, pure PTFE is chosen instead.

The 1000 mm rod in natural has a lot of carbon powder mixed in and is turned into bushings that have to take hard abrasion.

The rod is supplied in a bronze tone, yellow brown to darker. Diameter, length and finished turning are adapted to what you need.
