Round rod in PTFE GR15 is a graphite filled semi-finished product used where you turn bushings, pistons, valve bodies and rotationally symmetrical seals that need PTFE's chemical resistance and low friction, but where pure PTFE is not enough on wear resistance and PV value. The 15 percent graphite content raises both abrasion resistance and thermal conductivity compared with the GR10 variant, and at the same time gives a certain electrical conduction that counteracts static build-up.

The material keeps PTFE's temperature window, that is continuous operation up to 260 degrees and shorter exposure higher. At the cold end it works down to 200 degrees below zero, which is unusually wide for a thermoplastic. The density is high, around 2.1 to 2.2 depending on the formulation. Fire rating V0 according to UL 94 means self-extinguishing behavior when the flame is removed, and the material absorbs practically no moisture. The chemical resistance is on the same level as for pure PTFE and handles most strong acids, bases and organic solvents without swelling or degradation.

In round rod format, PTFE GR15 is particularly useful for turned plain bearings, piston rings, packing box strips, ball valve seats and rotating bushings. The graphite builds a transfer film against a mating surface in steel or bronze that stabilizes the friction coefficient and extends service life, especially in dry running applications where oil is not allowed. The heat conduction is noticeably better than for pure PTFE, which means friction heat is led away from the sliding surface faster. That reduces the risk of local overheating and plastic deformation at high PV values.

The color is dark gray to black and is homogeneous through the whole rod. During machining the material cuts easily in the lathe and mill, with sharp carbide tools and low feed as the standard recipe. Graphite is relatively gentle on the cutting edge compared with glass filled alternatives. The material cannot be glued in the usual way and cannot be heat welded, but it can be mechanically fastened or pressed into a housing with the right fit dimensions. Keep in mind the high thermal expansion compared with steel, roughly 10 to 15 times higher, when choosing clearance in bushings.

The 1000 mm rod in natural has graphite blended in and is turned into bushings that lubricate themselves dry.

The rod is cut into the lengths you need, from short blanks for bushings and stuffing box spools to longer blanks for turning pistons and seat elements. Common industries are chemical engineering, food machinery, pumps and compressors, ovens and dryers as well as equipment in petrochemical industry.
