Sheet in Frisylen XL 75 is a cross-linked polyethylene foam that sits in the middle of the density scale. The material is soft enough to shape itself to uneven surfaces and contours, but at the same time has enough load capacity not to compress under moderate load. It is often the starting point when you do not know exactly what hardness is needed.
The cell structure is closed and regular, which means the foam shuts out moisture and water. The sheet does not soak up condensation, does not swell in a damp environment and does not dry out over time. That is a dependable property for inserts in reusable crates that move between outdoor storage and indoor spaces.
XL 75 is easy to machine. A knife and a band saw work for straight cuts, water jet and CNC for cutouts and pockets, and thermoforming is possible if the foam is heated evenly. Joints are welded with hot air or bonded with a polyolefin compatible contact adhesive. The surface takes tape and primers without bleeding through.
In use the grade suits most ordinary transport scenarios. Tool inserts where both protection and dimensional stability are needed, gaskets with moderate sealing pressure, damping around vibrating equipment and void fill between components. The foam absorbs impact well and takes back its shape once the load is lifted, as long as reasonable limits for compression are not exceeded.
The material works continuously in the range of roughly minus 50 to plus 70 degrees. Below the lower limit the foam gets stiffer, but does not crack the way rigid plastics do. Above 80 degrees the deformation starts to become permanent. It takes short heat spikes, but continuous contact with hot surfaces is avoided.
Chemically polyethylene foam has broad resistance to water based media, mild acids and bases, alcohol, oils and most industrial cleaning agents. The materials that cause trouble are aromatic solvents, gasoline and strong oxidizers, where swelling or softening shows up even with shorter exposure. UV protection is needed for outdoor placement.
The sheet is supplied in standard formats and can be cut to size, die cut or cut to shape here. Get in touch if you want to compare XL 75 against a harder or a softer grade. We go through density, damping and permanent deformation based on your real load picture. This product, Frisylen XL 75 1000x500 mm multicolored, has the format 1000x500 mm, which makes it easy to place into an existing structure.
