Sheet in PaperBoard white is a composite sheet with a core of cellulose based paper and two outer layers of stiff white paper. The sandwich construction gives a sheet that weighs little, stays flat and takes print well, with a surface that suits both digital printing and vinyl application. The material is made for signs, displays and visual communication where weight, flatness and printability count for more than long term moisture and UV resistance.
The weight is low in relation to the stiffness. A PaperBoard sheet is noticeably lighter than a PVC foam board of the same thickness, which is a concrete advantage when material has to be handled, hung or shipped in larger volumes. At the same time the structure of the paper core gives firmness: the sheet does not bend under its own weight at normal display sizes.
The surface is smooth, matte and white, made for digital printing (UV, latex, eco-solvent), screen printing and vinyl application. Ink keys well and dries without lifting the top layer, as long as you stay with ink systems and adhesives intended for paper based materials. Wet water based paints or strongly solvent based adhesives can draw moisture into the core, so always test on a sample piece before a large run.
Typical areas of use:
Signs, shelf talkers and campaign material in stores.
Trade show stands, wall panels and set design.
Poster work, event decor and short term indoor signs.
Model making, prototypes and presentation material.
Machining is uncomplicated. Thinner material is cut with a sharp knife or a table cutter, thicker panels are sawn with a jigsaw or a circular saw or milled in a CNC. Tool wear is low because the core is soft. In CNC milling a single flute cutter gives a clean edge without chipping the surface layer. Mechanical fastening is done with screws and washers, channel fittings or double sided tape intended for paper surfaces.
PaperBoard is paper based and can be recycled in the paper stream where inks and adhesives allow, which gives it a good environmental profile compared with pure plastic boards. That is a relevant factor in procurements where the life cycle of the material is counted in.
The material is intended for indoor use. Moisture can deform the core and buckle the surface layer, and long UV exposure can yellow the white surface layer slightly. For outdoor signage or a damp environment, PVC foam or polypropylene is a better fit. The difference against Dispa lies in the quality and the stiffness of the surface layer: PaperBoard generally has a slightly thicker and stiffer top layer, which shows at larger formats and in freer hanging.
The use governs the choice of thickness. For posters and thin displays a smaller thickness is enough; for freestanding stands and larger panels you should go up in thickness to hold the flatness over time.
