PTFE with 15 percent glass fiber and added molybdenum disulfide is a compound that combines the chemical resistance of PTFE with a sliding surface that is a little harder and takes more pressure than pure PTFE. The MoS² sits baked into the matrix and contributes a dry lubricant that keeps working even in environments where oil is not an option.

The long term temperature is 260 degrees, the material handles short excursions down toward minus 200 and the flame class is V0. The density is 2.17 g per cubic centimeter, which is typical for PTFE based compounds. Against acids, bases, solvents and industrial gases the resistance is close to total. This is a material you pick when pure PTFE creeps too easily, when pure glass fiber PTFE is too hard on the mating surface, or when you want glide without introducing graphite into the process.

The glass fiber gives stiffness and less creep. Fifteen percent goes a long way toward lifting the compressive strength without making the material too hard to work. MoS² acts as a dry lubricant and keeps the coefficient of friction down even when thermal and chemical conditions break liquid lubrication down. The difference against the graphite version is subtle but practical: MoS² is somewhat better in heavily loaded plain bearings with slow movement, while graphite often wins in applications with high speed and a need to carry heat away.

The sheet format is used for punched seals, slide plates, wear strips, gaskets and valve seats. Typical applications are hydraulic cylinders, valves in the chemical process industry, compressor rings in larger sizes, and stuffing boxes for pumps with aggressive media. In food production and pharmaceutical manufacturing, PTFE compounds are common because clean PTFE additives do not release foreign substances into the process. MoS² counts as an inert additive in many contexts, but always check against your own specification before food contact.

Machining is like other reinforced PTFE. Carbide is standard, PCD pays off in series production. The material cuts easily but the glass fiber wears on the edge, so sharp tools are a precondition for a good sliding surface. Thermal expansion is high, around 12 to 15 times 10 to the power of minus 5 per degree Kelvin, which is about ten times as much as steel. That is worth carrying into the tolerance chain for pressed and guided parts.

The sheets are supplied pressed in formats that suit most manufacturing setups. You find the thickness in the range, and we are happy to cut to length and width from your drawing. The mating surface should be hardened or hard chrome plated and lie around 0.2 to 0.8 micrometers Ra to build up a stable transfer film.

Unsure between the graphite filled and the MoS² filled version? Send us your conditions and we go through speed, load and mating surface together.

With 15 percent glass fiber and dry lubricant mixed in, the sheet is dimensionally stable and runs easy without oil, and the 1200x1200 mm format in natural is enough for several slide pads.
