Sheet in PTFE GR10 is PTFE filled with 10 percent graphite, a combination used where you want the low friction and chemical resistance of PTFE but need better wear strength, a higher PV value and better heat conduction than pure PTFE manages. The role of the graphite is not to make the plastic stiffer the way glass fiber does, but to improve the tribological behavior and spread heat away from friction surfaces.

The material takes 260 degrees continuously and shorter exposure even higher. The lower service temperature is around 200 degrees below zero, which is typical for PTFE based plastics. Density is high, around 2.1 to 2.2. Fire class V0 to UL 94 means self-extinguishing behavior once the flame is removed, and water absorption is negligible. Chemically the material resists practically every industrial chemical, from strong acids and bases to organic solvents, and is not affected by UV, ozone or moisture over time.

The graphite gives a dark gray to almost black color and adds two practical properties. The first is higher wear strength against mating metal surfaces, because the graphite works as a solid lubricant that builds up a thin transfer film. The second is better heat conduction, which carries frictional heat away from the sliding surface faster and keeps the temperature there down. That is valuable in bushings, plain bearings and piston rings running dry at a high PV value, where pure PTFE otherwise risks melting locally.

The sheet format suits machining of seals, slide plates, seats in valves and piston ring blanks. In the choice between glass fiber filled and graphite filled PTFE the application decides: if you need higher stiffness and creep strength, glass fiber is the right way, and if you need better wear strength against a soft counterface and electrical conduction, graphite is better. PTFE GR10 is also gentler on the mating metal surface than the glass fiber filled grades, which matters in precision applications where a shaft or cylinder bore must not be scratched.

In a lathe and mill the material machines easily with sharp tools and low feed. The graphite is abrasive to a lesser degree than glass fiber, so tool wear is lower. The material cannot be bonded without surface etching and is not heat weldable in the usual way. Remember that PTFE based materials expand thermally more than steel, which affects fit choice and gasket clearance.

The sheet at 1200x1200 mm in natural has graphite mixed in that lubricates dry, good for sliding surfaces that have to run without oil.

The sheets are cut to order. Common uses are wear plates in pumps, seals in compressors, sliding supports in ovens and process equipment, and electrically semi-conductive elements where static build-up has to be avoided in a chemically aggressive environment.
