Industrial caster in a swivel bracket with rubber tread and PP hub, mounted with top plate
This is a swivel caster with rubber tread and PP hub, mounted on a top plate with four screw holes. The top plate is the most common fastening on carts and gives a stable, spread-out anchorage against the frame, which makes the caster simple to bolt on and to replace. The bracket rotates freely through 360 degrees so the cart is easy to steer, and the series is available with several brake options: directional lock, total lock brake and total lock brake with a nose for operating it with your foot.
The rubber tread has a hardness of 85 Shore A, a rubber that absorbs shocks and keeps the noise level down without feeling too soft under load. It grips well and settles against the surface, which holds the goods still and reduces vibration in the direction of travel. The rolling resistance is higher than on a hard wheel, so the wheel needs a little more force at the start, but in return it runs quietly and spares the floor.
Set the wheel against the alternatives for a moment. A hard nylon wheel rolls more easily and takes more load, but it is noisy and can scratch painted or polished floors. A softer rubber damps even more but drops in load capacity. At 85 Shore A this wheel ends up in a practical middle zone where quiet running and consideration for the floor combine with a load capacity that is enough for normal cart handling. The PP hub is light and corrosion-free and works in damp premises without rusting.
Bearings come in two versions in the series, plain bearing and roller bearing. The plain bearing is simple and maintenance-free and stands up to dirt and moisture, but gives a slightly higher rolling resistance. The roller bearing spreads the load over rollers and takes heavier pressure straight down with smoother running. The choice comes down to how heavy the cart is and how often it is driven.
The wheels come in diameters from 125 to 200 mm and handle load capacities up to 205 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints and thresholds and lowers the rolling resistance, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where space under the cart is limited. You match the brake choice to the need: directional lock to hold a straight course over long distances, total lock brake for safe parking, and total lock brake with a nose where the caster has to be braked with your foot.
Where does it fit? Top plate mounted swivel casters sit under transport carts, picking carts, shelf carts and rolling workbenches in workshops, warehouses and production. The directional lock is useful on carts that have to run straight over long distances without fluttering, while the total lock brake makes the caster suitable where the cart is loaded or parked on the spot. The quiet rubber running is an advantage in premises where noise has to be kept down.
Think about the operating environment. Rubber is happiest indoors at normal temperature and in dry to slightly damp surroundings. Dark rubber can leave marking on light floors; if you need a non-marking option, lighter treads are available. If the wheel stands still for a long time under load, the tread can take a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while. Check that the brake is engaged before the cart is left.
