Here is a swiveling industrial caster cast in one piece of PA6, with a slightly softer surface feel at 93 degrees Shore A. Tread and hub share the same material, which gives a homogeneous body with no weak joints between parts. The wheel is built to push heavy carts easily and to stand up to a workshop environment, and the series carries loads up to 550 kg per wheel.

What marks nylon out is the low rolling resistance. PA6 rolls easily and needs little starting force, and that effect is worth extra in work with many starts and stops where you otherwise lose time and force on every pull away. The hard surface keeps a small contact patch against the floor, and that is exactly what lets the wheel roll with so little resistance. The material handles moisture well and resists most of the oils, greases and mild cleaning agents found in a workshop.

A comparison helps you place the wheel correctly. A soft rubber or polyurethane wheel runs more quietly, absorbs shocks and is kinder to a sensitive floor, but it carries less and rolls more heavily. PA6 trades that comfort away for capacity and low rolling force. On a hard, smooth floor that is a good deal; on an uneven or noise-sensitive floor a softer wheel is preferable.

This version is supplied with a plain bearing. The plain bearing is simple and maintenance-free, it takes dust, dirt and moisture without binding and needs no lubrication. It gives a slightly higher rolling resistance than a ball bearing, but in return a bearing solution that copes with tough and dirty environments without supervision. It suits places where the casters do not roll around the clock but have to stand up to spills and debris.

The diameter comes in the range 150 to 200 mm. The larger diameter rolls more easily over thresholds, cable ducts and floor joints and lowers the rolling resistance, while the smaller one keeps the overall height down where space under the cart is tight. Thanks to the swivel bracket the caster swivels freely through 360 degrees, so the cart can be shunted and turned even in a cramped space. The bracket is fastened with a top plate, four screw holes that give a steady grip against the underframe.

If you need to park the load still, the series is available with a total lock brake, which locks both the rotation of the wheel and the swivel function at the same time. That is practical during loading, when working next to the cart and on floors that slope a little.

Where does it come in useful? This is an industrial caster for warehouses, workshops and production where the floor is hard and the load is substantial. It typically sits under material carts, picking carts, adjustable tables and machine underframes. Because PA6 takes no harm from moisture and mild chemicals, it also works in departments that are hosed down and cleaned regularly.

Think about the operating environment. A hard wheel wants an even surface to run quietly and roll smoothly; on gravel or a broken floor the running gets shaky and noisy. On concrete, tile and sheet steel floors PA6 works exactly as it should, with low friction and high load capacity.
