Swivel caster in rubber with PP hub, bolt hole and total lock brake

This is a swiveling caster with a tread in rubber and a hub in PP, fitted with a total lock brake and intended to be mounted with a bolt hole. It is a soft and quiet work wheel for indoor carts where a pleasant ride and safe parking both matter. The rubber tread has a hardness of 85 degrees Shore A, soft but with a touch more firmness than the very softest rubbers, which gives a good balance between damping and steadiness.

The soft rubber gives a calm roll. The tread takes up small unevenness, damps noise and vibration and spares the surface, which shows on painted or ground concrete and on tile. The grip is good, so the cart rolls safely even on a slightly slippery floor. Like all soft wheels it has somewhat higher rolling resistance than a hard plastic wheel; the cart takes a little more force to pull into motion, but the ride becomes pleasant and the goods shake less.

Compare it with a hard wheel. A stiff plastic wheel rolls more easily and carries more, but it sends noise and shocks straight into the floor and the frame and can mark sensitive surfaces. You choose this rubber wheel when quietness, grip and floor protection weigh heavier than the last kilo of load. If you need to move really heavy loads, a stiffer alternative fits better.

This wheel can be supplied with two bearing types. A plain bearing is simple and maintenance-free, handles dust and moisture and needs no lubrication, but gives somewhat higher rolling resistance. A roller bearing takes high radial load and gives a stable ride under heavier loading. Which one fits depends on how heavy the cart is and how often it is to roll. The PP hub is light and corrosion-free, does not rust and handles mild chemicals and cleaning agents.

The total lock brake locks the wheel and the swivel movement in one grip, so that the cart stands still where you parked it, even on a slope or if someone bumps into it. The caster is mounted with a bolt hole, a through bolt hole, which suits designs where the caster is bolted in place with a single through bolt instead of a plate.

The diameter runs from 80 to 125 mm and the series carries up to 100 kg per wheel. A larger diameter rolls more easily over joints and thresholds and lowers the rolling resistance, while a smaller one keeps the overall height down where space is tight. As a swivel caster the bracket turns freely 360 degrees and makes the cart easy to steer in narrow aisles and around corners.

Where does it fit? Rubber swivel casters with a PP hub and a brake often sit under picking carts, serving carts, cleaning carts and lighter transport carts in shops, warehouses, commercial kitchens and workshops. The brake makes it useful at loading and picking stations where the cart has to stand steady.

Think about the operating environment. The rubber tread is happy at normal indoor temperature and in dry to slightly damp environments; the PP hub handles moisture and mild chemicals. Black rubber can leave marks on light floors, so test it in an out-of-the-way spot first. Standing still for a long time under full load can give the tread a temporary flat spot that rolls out after a while, which is normal for soft materials.
