Applications

Slide strips for conveyor belts: low friction, long service life

In conveyor systems the belt rubs against supporting structures. That creates friction, wear and higher energy consumption. Slide strips in engineering plastics reduce friction and extend the life of both the belt and the frame.

What problem do plastic slide strips solve?

Metal supports wear the conveyor belt and need lubrication to keep friction down. In wet or chemically affected environments the metal corrodes and contaminates the product. Plastic slide strips eliminate both problems.

Which materials fit and why?

The choice depends on load, speed and environment. The most common options are:

  • PE-UHMW / PE-1000 (polyethylene) – extremely low friction, high abrasion resistance, good chemical resistance and approved for food contact.
  • POM-C (polyacetal) – low friction combined with stiffness and dimensional stability – ideal where precision and tight tolerances are required.

Typical applications

  • Food conveyors and packaging lines
  • Logistics centres with high throughput
  • Bottle and can lines in the beverage industry
  • Palletising systems
  • Heavy industrial belts in mining and pulp industries

Advantages of plastic over metal

  • No lubrication required
  • Lower friction and energy consumption
  • Less wear on the conveyor belt
  • Quieter running
  • Corrosion-free and easy to clean
