Tubes and ventilation in plastic
Metal tubes rust, they are heavy, and they need a lot of maintenance in environments with aggressive gases, chemicals or high humidity. Plastic tubes solve the problem by combining low weight with high chemical resistance and easy machining. They can be welded, bent and joined with the same tools as metalwork, but without any risk of corrosion.
Which materials suit and why
- PP: easy to weld and withstands most chemicals. The standard choice for ventilation and process tubes in industry and labs.
- PVC: stiff, light and cost effective. Common in ventilation, drainage and dust extraction.
- PVDF: for aggressive gases, high temperatures and clean processes where nothing may leak.
- PE-HD: impact resistant and flexible. Suits tubes exposed to knocks, ground movement and low temperatures.
Typical applications
- Ventilation and fume extraction in industrial buildings and laboratories
- Process and drainage tubes in the chemical industry and surface treatment
- Tubes for aggressive gases and dust
- Lab tubes and clean rooms
Advantages of plastic compared with metal
- Corrosion free: works year after year in acidic, alkaline and salty environments
- Low weight: easier handling and installation, and less load on the structure
- Electrically insulating: no galvanic corrosion between different metals
- Easy to work: can be welded, drilled, bent and joined with ordinary tools
- Lower maintenance cost over the service life
