PEKEKK, high-temperature plastic in the PAEK family
PEKEKK belongs to the same family as PEEK and takes high-temperature plastic one step further. Stiff, dimensionally stable and with good abrasion resistance, built for the hottest and toughest environments. A specialty material for anyone who has already run out of what PEEK can handle.
What it is
PEKEKK is a high-temperature plastic in the PAEK family, the same group as PEEK. It is one of the toughest engineering materials available in thermoplastic: high heat deflection temperature, good stiffness, good abrasion resistance and good chemical resistance. The simple way to think about it is that PEKEKK sits close to PEEK, but is aimed at applications where the heat and the demands go higher still. This is a pronounced specialty material, exotic and expensive, so get in touch early and we will help you decide whether it is really needed.
Properties
Very high, in the top tier among thermoplastics
Good stiffness and dimensional stability under load
Good abrasion resistance in demanding environments
Good chemical resistance in many media
Keeps its properties at high temperatures
Common applications
PEKEKK is chosen as the material for the toughest parts, where PEEK does not quite reach on the heat side. These are demanding applications in the process, energy and engineering industries, where high temperature, wear and chemicals meet in the same part. Because the material is this exotic and this costly, we always recommend that you describe the application to us, so we can see whether PEKEKK is needed or whether PEEK does the job at a fraction of the cost.
Limitations
The biggest limitation with PEKEKK is the price and the availability. It is one of the most expensive thermoplastic materials, and we carry it in a very narrow selection, so lead time and availability vary. For the great majority of high-temperature needs PEEK is enough, and PEKEKK is right only where PEEK demonstrably falls short. Like most high-performance plastics it is also hard to machine and needs the right tools and experience.
Our PEKEKK grades go to 260 °C in continuous operation and 300 °C for short periods, and the melting point is 384 °C.
Grades and variants
We carry PEKEKK in the base version.
Base grades
- PEKEKK base version, the form we carry in the range, built for the hottest and toughest environments.
Additives and reinforcements
- Carbon or glass fiber filled, filled or reinforced grades may be available to order in. Since the material is exotic, we verify availability case by case.
Machining
PEKEKK needs the right tools and an experienced hand. If the part manages with PEEK, there is rarely a reason to step up to PEKEKK, both for the price and because the machining is easier.
Formats we can supply
We carry PEKEKK as sheet and round rod. You can see formats and dimensions in the range, and for a material this exotic it always pays to ask about availability first. Want a piece cut to size? Enter the dimensions in VisualCutter and you see the price straight away.
