A flat spear in white plastic, 140 mm long, made as a mounting accessory for paper based display boards. The pack holds 300 pieces and weighs 4.47 kg, roughly 15 grams per spear. The material is nylon in a solid design: tough, dimensionally stable and made to sit hard in the board material.

The spear does a different job than the screw. Where the screw threads itself into place and can be turned out again, this type of flat spear is pressed into the core of the board and locks the parts of the structure to each other through its shape. The flat profile gives a large contact surface inside the board, which makes the fastener steady against twisting in a way round pins have a hard time matching. The method is quick: no tool, no threading, just firm pressure.

Typical jobs are joining panels at an angle, anchoring shelves and dividers in promotional stands and mounting parts that have to stay put for the whole life of the display. Sign makers value the pace in production, where hundreds of fasteners a day have to be set without wrists and schedules taking a beating; exhibition builders use the spears for parts that do not have to come apart between setups.

At 140 mm the spear reaches deep into the material and can bridge joints between two board sections with a proper grip on both sides. Exactly how hard it sits depends, as always, on the board; core design and density vary between makes and thicknesses. So always make a test fitting in offcuts of the board grade you are working with before the run is produced, and check both the insertion force and the strength of the finished joint.

The white color follows the same logic as the rest of the accessory range. Most display boards are white or light, and a white spear that shows in a joint or an edge does not disturb the overall impression. If the fastener sits completely hidden inside the structure the color matters less, but visible positions always turn up in real life; then it is good that the accessory is color matched from the start.

The toughness of nylon matters in this particular product. A brittle material would risk snapping when driven into denser board grades, while nylon flexes a little and returns; the spear takes being driven in with firm hand force. The weight is at the same time negligible in the finished structure, and the plastic is sorted separately when the display goes for recycling.

The three hundred pack is sized for production runs. A single promotional stand can swallow a dozen spears or more depending on the number of joints, so count through the structure and multiply by the print run before you order. Spears left over store without trouble until the next project.

If the structure also needs fasteners that come apart, there are plastic screws in 30 and 55 mm, eye screws for hanging and single hooks for product display in the same range.

In the production flow, spear and screw complement each other rather than compete. Joints that are never going to be opened again are made with spears for the sake of speed, while parts that have to be adjusted or replaced get screws; a well thought out stand often mixes both. Working without tools also makes spear assembly quiet, which is appreciated when displays are finished in the same room as the office staff.

Finally, check the direction before the spear is pressed in; unlike a screw, you cannot back it out and set it again without the core taking damage. Measure twice, press once.
